Why would Wonderbolts even help Rarity, the first time they tried to save her from falling, she slap/kick them in the face and almost took them with her.
Second time when they tried to save her from giant Spike, they were defeated in very embarrassing way.
When will they learn that helping Rarity is a bad luck for them.

Frankly this does fit with their character (Wonderbolts, from S3).
Doing stupid stuff no apparent reason? Check.
Not using armour or weapons, despite every military we've seen using them? Checkero. (also scratch, scratch, scratch!)
Wonderbolts failing at random stuff (that they do for no reason)? Hat trick!
Maybe tank is there for when they fail. He's smart, methodical and armoured.

Considering the fact that Spitfire cut off giant spikes scales something that not needles or even LAVA could damage i don't think they need armor.

We don't know what material properties dragon scale has, nor is that time to assume that the Wonderbolts don't need armour.
Are you inferring they 'are' somehow protected or invincible?
Or that something that is heat resistant must also be strong, or ductile? (think of space-shuttles, very heat resistant but undone by a piece of foam as evidence to the contray)
Eh, all I saw was that they wanted to show the Wonderbolts doing something to the dragon, so they attacked his scales... beyond that, I don't think a jumpsuit should make you any tougher...

Armour can slow you down, but light or meidium armour can offer great protection for their low weight.

However fit someone is, that doesn't make them tougher than steel.
However amazing a material is (heat or sharp), doesn't make it some super material. Swords are sharp, but the break, Space shuttles get very hot, but they can be ruined by a piece of foam.
Spikes, nails, and other krytenous substances can be strong and sharp. But they are also brittle and aren't sharp on the sides (allowing them to be broken easily, as the Wondernbolts did).
