Description
Thie was a self motivating test to see how far I could push myself In terms of not only drawing but breaking the barrier of keeping my drawings 11x 14 and smaller. This drawing took me 6 months to do and approximately 58 hours. This was completed my freshman year of college and is still one of my favorites. I didnt do this peice to show the world that i can draw...I did this piece to show myself that there are no boundaries to my ability. I could never sell this piece because it's the foundation for many to come...however upon my ideas instead.Related content

I would have died even thinking of trying to shade each of the individual metal gears and highlighting each correctly. The fact you did that let alone kept the picture proportionate and correctly shaded everything else including the ridiculously complex texture of his coat makes me see you truly have mastery of mind. I love drawing, I love shading, but after the first month of such meticulous tediousness I would have ripped it to shreds. Excellent job technically and I praise you for your commitment.

Jeezez, that's some patience!
Replicating an existing picture can be so much harder sometimes, especially an image so well known that people can judge so critically. Hats off to you!

This is certainly impressive, well deserving of a DD, you don't see much in pencil getting recognition anymore, the emphasis in on digital (not that I personally could complain about that)
How big was this, anyhow?

WOW, the detail just blows me a way and the rendering and light is just pure awesome. I have more a soft style but I admire people who can do it the hard as well. Great job. The composition kicks butt as well.

I just read all the comments and I find it hilarious how some people are flaming you or claiming it's fake just because they are jealous.
As for the art, I'd say it's very nicely done.

Hmm. I'm just one of what must be at least a hundred people who commented here, but I feel compelled to add my small piece anyway.
If this is just a photomanipulation, your shame is your own to deal with. But I want to be optimistic instead and think that you have managed to recreate by hand what has only been possible through generations of photograph and computer generation technology. some points are apparently lost because it is indeed an unoriginal pose, but I could never even trace this well, let alone draw it (well, never before now: I'd like to think I could be this good in the future).
I believe your bane was in choosing that photo to trace (and when I say trace, I mean either by eye or overlapping the subject matter), but lets stop and think for a moment. Surrounded by technology, we take our gifts for granted. Remember for a moment all those people who dedicated their lives to the creation of the camera and its subsequent improvement and development, and also lament the loss of wonder we feel at a truely masterful piece of traditionally hand constructed art.
I would definately need to have seen one work on such a masterpiece to believe in its construction, and so you can catalog me as doubtful. but please don't hate me because my senses are limited and my soul is jaded by the past falsifications I have seen. I would hate it if our disbelief shamed a true miracle of construction.
And in the end, your glory and your shame is truely your own... I never realised a picture of doc oc would make stop and think of such things.
Be it real or be it fake, you have my respect for opening my mind and making me just a little bit more capable of understanding how the world works.
... unfortunately, I still wonder... I've suffered quite a bit to get where I am artisticallly... and I'm mediocre at best. what pain could one endure to get to such a level as this? luck can be more than "talent" as people see it. it can be in the right (or wrong?) place at the right (wrong) time to expose yourself to the emotions you need to motivate you, be they joy, pain, or anything in between. I believe you need to be hard wired for art to achieve this level of realism, and sadly, not everyone is "lucky" enough to undertake just the right kind of experiences that allow a person the willpower to complete something like this. True... I'm probably just too lazy to do something like this, but what broke my spirit to make me so... or what element am I missing that will temper my soul and allow me to achieve greatness?... Again, I just don't know.
