Description
Thie was a self motivating test to see how far I could push myself In terms of not only drawing but breaking the barrier of keeping my drawings 11x 14 and smaller. This drawing took me 6 months to do and approximately 58 hours. This was completed my freshman year of college and is still one of my favorites. I didnt do this peice to show the world that i can draw...I did this piece to show myself that there are no boundaries to my ability. I could never sell this piece because it's the foundation for many to come...however upon my ideas instead.Related content

The drawing is indeed very good and one of the most detailed ones I've seen. But it's a drawing, even a copy, of a photo. I think that if it had an original pose, it would deserve a Daily Deviation.
Also, every artist, every person, has their limits. We always push them, and we get better at what we do. But doing a great drawing (with a generic pose) does not mean that anyone has "no boundaries to their ability."

It's a test of patience and willpower. Being able to spend that much time on anything to perfect it is impressive. And please, if you have a problem with the Daily Deviation, don't bitch to the artist.
Why don't you try reading this to get a better grasp of how things are supposed to be done... FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?
What you said is not only disrespectful but in bad form. And how do you have any right when you have no art in your own gallery?
If you have an issue, complain via note to the Gallery Director, or the person who suggested it (ME). They didn't ask that their work be featured, I did. Please be smarter next time.

Gawd, I wasn't saying that the Daily Deviation should be taken away, or anything as stupid as that. But the fact that I don't have art in my gallery CLEARLY means I have no right to say anything other than "OMFG KAWAII!!! ^__^", or some variation of that.
And I also complemented the skill and detail as well. If I had said "Lol ur art sukzorz and u sukzorz too, U COPEED EET", Then I'd expect to be told "Please be smarter next time." And besides, other people seem to be saying similar things to me, like ShadowAndreas69, SDBR39952 , and Small--Lady, to name the ones I've seen. Also, I noticed that you attacked Small--Lady's art as well, just as you made fun of my lack of it.

It's a matter of being respectful to the artist. Personally, I feel if someone has the nerve to be disrespectful, I reserve the right to take a little pot shot at them. I hardly think you'll lose any sleep over the comment I sent you, and if anything, maybe you'll change your tune next time.
Now, honestly, if you think about what I said to you, it's a dumb comment. It was clearly meant to get under your skin, but both you and I know that it means nothing. I don't know you, I don't know what your art looks like, nor do I know if you even make art. I was merely trying to make a point.
If you ask anyone who knows me, or watches me, or reads my journals, or hell, even a handful of staff and ex-staff that know me, they'll tell you that I'm a really nice guy. I rarely lose my temper at people, and I'm quick to apologize. The fact is, though, I get upset when people complain directly on a Daily Deviation in the manner than many of you have done.
Not only does the FAQ tell you not to, but it flat out makes you look bad. I'm not doing myself any favors by bitching either, but I feel it's justified and I will continue to do so in defense of people.
Just the other day ~mschick got a Daily Deviation, and tons of people sat there and insulted her and her work. No one took the time to recognize the fact that she has Multiple Sclerosis and was learning to draw with her opposite hand, and some that did still said mean things. Can you imagine how that made her feel? To have people tell her that she doesn't deserve the DD for her hard work? For dealing with debilitating disease and having to draw with her off hand?
Obviously this doesn't quite compare, but when stuff like that happens, it pisses me off. This entire little rant is probably better directed at someone other than you, but I feel it needs to be said.
I apologize if I insulted you in any way, and I hope there's no hard feelings. I just want you to understand my perspective here.

Kaykay. I don't think I was being disrespectful towards the artist, and I've got no intent to piss them or you off, but if you thought I was, well I guess you had the right to your opinion, just as I (sort of) had a right to mine.
Oh, BTW, if the comments like mine were really making the artist upset/pissed off, don't you think that he'd reply to them or hide them himself?
No hard feelings either. I don't think either of us is looking for a flame war.

Definately among the most intracate traditional pieces I've seen so far. 58 hours requires alot of determination indeed. Next time you do something like this you indeed ought to use a design of your own. Excellent work.

Very well executed piece. I love all of the details. Yeah, 6 months would definitely be needed to complete something with this much detail! You'd go insane otherwise! Did you copy from a photograph or did you make your own composition? I really admire the shading a work on the face (maybe not everyone notices that as much). Great work.

An extremely good and very detailed drawing. The only problem I have is your comment. Your head seems to be over inflated and I think you should get over yourself. There are better people out there with more talent than you and there is a limit to everyone's ability. Very well be happy with your achievements but stop thinking you're the god of art for a drawing u did of a picture you have seen. If you had drawn it out of your head I would have given you more credit.

Is it really necessary to say any of that? Did he say anything about feeling like a god of art? He simply tried to push himself to be the best he possibly could, to see how far he could take it. He even says, "I didnt do this peice to show the world that i can draw...I did this piece to show myself that there are no boundaries to my ability."
I think you misunderstand what he says here. It's not about being able to do anything better than anyone, it's about setting an extremely high goal and shattering your own expectations. As an artist, if you can't do that, then you're not going anywhere.
You're misguided here, and have no right to insult an artist for being proud of his piece. And so what if he has a little bit of an ego (which I don't see coming through at all), that's part of what keeps any of us doing the things we do. If you can't be proud of yourself, and happy about your work, what reason do you have to keep making it?
Your comment makes you sound like the jealous type. Who cares if he used a reference for it, I don't see how that makes it any less impressive. Don't you use references? What artist doesn't? Anyone who says they don't is a liar, or an idiot.
Why don't you make better use of your time, and instead of making insulting comments on someone's piece of work, go improve your own craft. He didn't ask that this become a Daily Deviation, I did. If he had suggested himself, then maybe I'd say you're right, but since that's not the case, you're dead wrong.
I go to school with this guy, don't act like you know him.

Everyone has a write to give an opinion and don't need to take this crap for giving one. It's none of your business. It's only insulting cause you took it that way. Its criticism! He is an artist and a big boy so he can handle it. If he can't he shouldnt allow comments. they are there for people's 'opinions' not 'insults' like u say. Its an art community and the comment was for him so it's none of your business. You're jst picking a fight when there isnt even an problem

I can't stand when people douche their way around DDs. 90% of the time it comes down to them being jealous or something of that sort. I will admit, I bitched my way around a couple of DD's and I realized later that I was a complete freakin' asshole. There's a way to go about stuff like this, and people just don't get it.
People shouldn't insult someone because they got a DD, it wasn't their choice. Hell, I was disappointed with which one of my pieces got chosen for my DD, which goes to show that although it's pretty kickass, the artist isn't always ecstatic.
"Blah blah blah blah, this was referenced, blah blah, not as impressive blah blah blah, but look, I have no art in my gallery! Blah blah blah, I have no room to talk, blah blah, me is teh jealous."
