Hard to imagine that there are working class suburbs in Australia to begin with. Here in Europe we're led to believe that all Australians live in a large mansion on a lush green hillside overlooking the ocean. At least that's what they always show on TV. Your biggest worry in life are the killer snakes on your lawn, if the media are to be trusted (plus the spiders of course)

Hmm, I grew up in one of those rough places I'm afraid, after having been born into the "naice" part of town. Sheet happens. The transition wasn't smooth. When people talk about "culture clashes" they usually refer to encounters between different societies. Most seem unaware of the traumas "intra-society culture clashes" can produce. That's of course because most are stuck within their own two centimeters of social stratum for their entire lives, and from that position find themselves in the position to neatly arrange the world around them into little boxes. My experience did come with an advantage, I may say: it takes a REALLY dangerous person to intimidate me. I live in what should be a rough place right now as well, and while there certainly are a few types around you really don't want to become enemies with, I've noticed that in over a decade of living here I've never seen kids fighting, which seems weird for a place like this. I guess it has to do with the fact that if a kid has the audacity to say "booh" these days, they're instantly put on medication. I do like your "rough place" paintings, and the fact that you give them attention. I haven't seen that happen very often.
