The orders were explicit to the raven haired CPD unit. Another silly sweep of the bowels of the old ruin. The Azogoloth hadn't been found down here in years. It was a blind end with no entrances. Nothing ever happened down here. And it stunk. The ancient cistern held water. The stench of a thousand years was still there. The CPD unit thought to herself, "Why the hell am I down here rather than on the lines taking out Black Faction units." She had seventeen kills to her credit. She was nearing her 4 year hitch. Promotion was imminent. What a waste of my talents.

She looked up at the blonde recruit and commanded, "Advance, draw fire and scout enemy positions." The order was perfunctory. No one expected any enemy units down here. But, the recruit was stupid. She needed a limited set of orders to follow. Recruits were always several rounds shy of a full clip. Every unit had an implant. The devices removed all fear and self preservation instinct. In return it blunted pain responses and heightened aggression. In the initial recruit the ORC had to work at full capacity. The more seasoned units brains accommodated and required less suppression. A side effect of this heavy suppression was a blunting of intellect. Desirable in a raw recruit. The effect was that orders had to be simple, short, and unvarying from a short list. The "Advance, draw fire and scout enemy positions" was the first order on that list. It was the most often used.

It was nearly always the last order that recruits ever heard.
