For Don Bluth fans, here's some Secret of NIMH fan art called "Remembering You". Just who is Brisby remembering? Justin? Jonathan? Jeremy? (What's with all the J's?)After dabbling with openCanvas' Event recording two years ago , I decided to revisit it for a full-fledged illustration. The imagery of Brisby and her family living in a lantern is based on a dream I had more than anything in the book or movie, and Brisby resembles Shelly Pleger's artwork more closely than Don Bluth's design. This is a piece I've been meaning to do for years, but I've felt unable to the task until recently. I'm quite chuffed with the way it turned out and it's extremely gratifying seeing this being played back. I ended up doing a few more oC recordings after this.

This picture is the embodiment of beauty and grace.Β
The colouring simply makes this picture a joy on the eyes and the layout offers a lot of detail but not so much that it becomes hard to look at. We can still focus on the main piece of the picture, the Brisby family themselves.Β
The expressions sell their characters without a problem. You look at the expressions and say "Yeah, that's totally the Brisby family".
Simply glorious my friend. This is a delight to the eyes and you should be proud of yourself for this magnificent drawing.

Oh I love this movie! Don Bluth has done some fantasic movies! It's just a shame his bad ones outnumber the good ones, but at least the animation is always top notch!

Okay. I know that you drew the family and background by hand, but did you draw Mrs. Brisby, and the children on separate paper and then arrange the size of them or what?

Eh, something like that. I drew the mice and lamp to scale, but I was unsure of my ability to draw interesting foliage. So what I did was create a photo montage of the drawing with different plants and paint over that to create the final image.

Well, yeah. I cut and paste plants from different photos to create my own wee garden. I'm surprised you never heard of it.

Absolutely, lovely, very well colored, and the entire background is well detailed, well-colored, and downright beautiful.

The blurring on the foreground objects kinda add a nice "cinematic" touch to it.

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and is based on my favorite novel growing up. There is not enough good fan art of this on deviantart, and alot of the other art I've found of the movie is not only bad but horrifying and wierd.
