This is my entry for the Operation Moonfall art contest to promote The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Not only is that my favourite game in the Zelda series, but it's my favourite game, period. I can think of no better way to express my love for Majora's Mask by painting one of my favourite scenes in the game: protecting Romani Ranch from an alien attack. Saving princesses be damned! Nothing says 'hero' like rescuing cute ranch girls from ghouls and marauders. Having said that, I always found it strange that Romani (NOT Malon!) cowers in the barn after practising all day shooting balloons with her bow. What was the point of that? After reading the spin-off Franco-Belgian comic "Louve ", which features a gifted young Viking girl training to be an archer, I think having Romani team-up here would have been more memorable than just letting 'Grasshopper' do all the work. Oh, and notice how Epona is absent. Seriously, does anyone go riding around trying to shoot Them on horseback? I just camp in front of the barn with my trusty Hero's Bow.... until that one bugger sneaks around behind the house and scuppers my whole plan.

Yeah I can totally see/wish this happened however, I think the reason why Romani chickened out is like most kids who aren't Link (and maybe Zelda) they believe & boast about how tough & brave they are except when it's time to put your money with your mouth is, a little kid is like "Holy Crap this really scary & dangerous!" Kind of like how the one swordsman in town claimed he was gonna chop the moon in half cut back to Day 3 & he's crying in the corner. Plus it could be that she panicked and realized there were too many for her to handle. Before maybe there were only a few & she managed to repel them back easily, or she mistakenly believed there were far less then she had seen before. Learning the difference between the 1 or 2 that pass by her window vs the huge amount that shows up.

Never has failing a side quest been so heartbreaking. Just what exactly do those aliens do to Romania? She's such a sweetheart, and to see her so... empty when you fail is really upsetting.

i always end up with arrows to spare, worked fine to get the 50 arrow quiver first... lovely art, i like specially the tunnel view, makes it look more foreboding so you can see how much is at risk in case you fail.

Wait, people actually stood on the box and shot at them? I thought you were supposed to take Epona and patrol... I mean that's what Romani had you do with balloons for practice

Either way works. You can technically walk fast enough to defend the point on foot, but if you use Epona you can push the waves back easier. The biggest problem is the ghost to the left. He spawns really close to the barn and comes back almost immediately after being shot. You basically have to live in his corner.

I'm sure horseback defence is what the game intended you to do, but it's not what you have to do.

Personally I just ran around the barn in circles and only shot the ones that got close. It didn't matter how many you shot, it only mattered that none got to the barn before sunrise.

I use Epona and I find it very efficient. Β Plus it's easier to refill on arrows cuz you just have to charge her into the crate rather than waste time trying to roll into it. X3

Anyone else more impressed by Romani's courage than Link's?Β Link is an old hand at this, Romani is just a normal, non-blessed nine or ten year old girl with a bow and a Terrier.

Let's not forget that if Link doesn't help her, she doesn't flee. The aliens abduct her and she's traumatized.

Oh man, I don't even remember how old I was when I first played Majora's Mask but I remember that the first encounter with the aliens terrified me.Β The music change, the seemingly never ending swarm of enemies, and that stupid one behind the farm that keeps coming out of nowhere.Β I love that Romani and the brave doggy companion are out there fighting the good fight with Link.Β It makes the odds seem a little less one-sided.Β My favorite part of all is probably the mood though.Β Between the aliens getting closer and closer and Romani's nervous response to them it reminds me of how intense that side quest felt.
