Description
Hey, does anyone remember this thing? I decided to color it as a practice for my Digital Illustration project (creating a comic version of Ray Bradbury's The Illustrated Man).Overall I'm happy with this, but there are most definitely some things I need to work on:
1) Metal coloring/shading, I'm really not sure how it's done.
2) The background is supposed to be the walls of falling ocean water during the final scene, but it's pretty obvious I failed miserably at that. Really, when I drew the line art way back when, I had no intention of ever color this, and I really didn't include a background at all (
3) The font sucks. I just went with Comic Sans because of a lack of time and real interest. I'll probably be pickier for my project, but this will do for now.
4) The speech bubbles look...off. I'll see what I can do about that for my project.
Other than that, tell me what you all think. This was my first time coloring a comic page and I'm still pretty new at digital painting. I was thinking about doing more of a cel shading style because it just seemed to look better to me (regardless of the Wind Waker game style), but I figured this is probably closer to what I'll end up using for the Illustrated Man comic book.
Legend of Zelda Wind Waker belongs to Nintendo

Whoa, that's amazing! Now I wish that there was a wind waker graphic novel...

I would love it if there was a Wind Waker graphic novel like the other games (unless I've completely missed it). I'm glad you like it. Really, I'm still interested in working on this project. I have the story idea, just need an actual writer who can get the words into text for me to work with.

I think you did a great job of coloring this, it looks just like a western comic! The weighting and hatching in the original lineart paired with the cuts-airbrush coloring looks amazing. I wish I could help beyond suggesting searching for water tutorials (I'm terrible with scenery effects), but maybe soft shading rather than cel shading would help the background flow with the characters more.

Thanks so much! I was thinking about using soft shading on the water rather than leaving it in cel shading, but I just didn't get around to changing it. I'll try to keep that quick change in mind for later. And you're right: I should look up a water coloring tutorial

I'll be honest, I really don't remember what I had in mind when I drew this. I might have had that intention back then, but looking at it now, it seems awkward to have him look so shadowed

Well, I would put him in shadow because he's about to announce the end of the world. But I was curious to see if you found Daphnes as scary as I did.
