I wanted to title this "Tchaikovsky's Magical Musical Moustache", but it wouldn't fit.

This was done for the second project in my Illustration I class. The assignment was to choose a historical figure and create an illustration using gouache and colored pencils. I was unfamiliar with using gouache, and the prof kept stressing that we needed to not use too much pigment or else the pencil can't go on top. So, I don't feel like I was able to get enough color with the paint to really make the drawing pop. I've tried correcting it with the colored pencils, but it still feels so...blah (the color study was super awesome compared to this).

Color Studies: [link] I was attempting to go more for the top one, but I ended up with a sort of mixture of the two.

I couldn't decide who to use for this project for the longest time. I jumped from Peter Cullen to Arnold Schwarzenneger to Ray Bradbury to H.G. Wells, when all of a sudden Princess Tutu popped into my brain. That lead to Swan Lake and then to Tchaikovsky. I've always have loved Tchaikovsky's music.

I attempted to incorporate the theme from swan lake (I think that's actually the bass line of the bassoon), but the large notes look like something you'd see in a children's music book, and I left out the measure lines and connecting lines (sorry if those are the wrong names for them, it's been a long time since I've had anything to do with music) out for fear of them make the area too cluttered.

That ballerina was a pain to draw.
