A simple scene inspired by *Kindii 's drawing . And a test of a new renderer.
I finally mustered enough willpower and courage to try some heavy artillery. In my case that means installing Reality - a plugin for DAZ Studio that serves as a bridge between DS and LuxRender, a rendering engine based on physical properties of light.
Basically, given enough time and processor power LuxRender can produce really stunning results. The problem is that it works much slower than Studio's default renderer and is much more demanding technically. I'll have to try hooking up some of the computers at my workplace to do the job.

Lux is amazing. most of my stuff that is "glass" has been done with it. I link up two quad cores at home overnight usually. setting up its networking is not hard at all and it is cross platform so with some work if you have even older computers you can put linux on them and run lux from the console. Hardest thing in Luxrender is at least when working from Blender is to get the fully correct results everything has to be actual size. needless to say attempting to model my characters space freighter at actual size is daunting.

Yeah, I'll be sure to try setting up the rendering network at work. Plenty of computers there that just sit doing nothing

yea Networking lux is great, though your models should still go much faster than my glass ones as glass in a physically based rendering system is also figuring out how light interacts inside the object. thankfully for your CPUs, light does not pass through giants or tinys. though if you want you can get extra confusing and start using Glass2 for the outer part of the eye. =x

Oh, if you don't want to do it you don't have to. I know that the scene is a little more mature than what you're used to submitting to dA, and I wouldn't want your watchers to get upset if they are used to you submitting clean GT pictures only.
