Description
Here is another piece I did for oil pastel practice. Photo reference was my own, taken of a driveway down the street in May. I liked the offbeat composition and the juxtaposition of the delicate flowers and the rusty old truck. The signpost and the newspaper help hold the piece together.Oil pastel on Strathmore pastel paper.

This is oil pastel?? What amazing detail, I've never seen the medium used in such a realistic manner! Excellent! Five stars!

Thank you so much. That made my day. I'm a newcomer to oil pastel, having used pencil for most of my drawing career. I love sharp detail and tried hard to render it with this unfamiliar medium--I'm so pleased that you liked it!

I'm more comfortable with pen and/or pencil too. I'm working with soft pastels, they get away from me sometimes. I wish I had your eye for detail!

Oh, goodness, it's been interesting learning to use something so thick and large-scale compared to pencil! There are so many tricks to getting details, of light over dark, or dark over light, and color mixing on the paper. My work still isn't anywhere near what real oil pastel artists can do, but it's improved a lot (I think) in just four pieces. Thanks for your compliments!
