“Hey!” called Beckie. Arno turned and saw her walking toward him.

“Hi Beckie,” said Arno.

“How do you feel?” she asked.

“I’ve been better, but I’ve also been worse,” said Arno with a shrug.

“Well I hope you feel all better soon,” said Beckie sympathetically. She glanced around, visibly pondering something. “Um… Arno?”

“Yeah?”

“Are…” Beckie took a deep breath. “Are you doing anything this weekend?”

“Huh?” asked Arno. “Uh… no. Why do you ask?”

Beckie blushed and closed her eyes, smiling. “I… I just wanted to ask if you’d like to hang out this Friday. Six o’clock?”

Arno blinked with surprise. “Uh, sure, I guess,” he said. “That’d be cool.”

Beckie’s face lit up. “Great!” she said. “You like Cafe Solaire?”

“Never heard of it,” said Arno.

Beckie’s eyes burst open. “You’ve never been to Cafe Solaire?! Well let’s fix that. What’s your address?”

“Huh?” asked Arno.

“I’ll pick you up!” said Beckie, pulling out a sheet of paper and a pen and handing both to Arno. “It’s no trouble at all.” Arno took the pen and scrawled his address on the paper before returning it to Beckie. She looked at it and beamed.

“I’ll be at your place 6pm, Friday,” she said.

“Cool,” said a bemused Arno. “I… I guess I’ll see you then—well, I’ll see you in Spanish tomorrow, too.”

“You sure will, cariño!” Beckie beamed before she turned and departed, a noticeable skip in her step.

Beckie Applebaum had had a crush on Arno van Keef since the start of the school year. After her efforts to get him to notice her failed, Beckie decided to take matters into her own hands and approach Arno to ask HIM on a date. Arno was stunned, but nonetheless accepted.
