Description
Beckie Applebaum flirting with Arno van Keef. They are the main characters of my story, "A Funny Thing Happened in Spanish Class." It's a standard 'boy meets girl' comic love story, but with a twist: the gender roles are turned on their head! Beckie pursues Arno and asks him on dates, brings him flowers, and invites him to see her play on the girls basketball team, while Arno's friends laugh at him for becoming "the girl" in the relationship.
Given this decade's odd obsession with gender, I wanted to broach the topic in a way that wasn't ideological or fetishistic, but reflected two young people with feelings for each other who are trying to figure out how to engage with each other.
