Description
It's been a while since I uploaded anything that wasn't Transformers, so I thought I'd upload a pin-up I did recently as sort of a commission for IDW Publishing's Editor-In-Chief Chris Ryall.Chris is a big fan of the 1980s character ROM who was a toy that was developed into a Marvel Comic.
Unfortunately the rights to ROM are caught up in limbo (which is ironic if you are familiar with ROM fiction) so any future tales of the Galadorian Spaceknight are very much in doubt.
However, I was able to at least have some fun with the character.

ROM (and Micronauts) are coming back under IDW. The next best home beside Marvel who apparently had no interest in them. Great picture dude!

You know it never occurred to me how ironic it is that the rights to Rom are in limbo. That's a great picture by the way.

Gatana In reply to glovestudios [2009-07-21 16:01:57 +0000 UTC]
I think it was issue 1, if not I need to ask my dad again, because he entered a contest when he was younger and his picture of Rom that he worked on won and ended up on the cover of an issue..
I hae that picture somewhere back home, he told me they sent it back to him in a frame.

Although I have to admit, I like the new and improved Galadorian space knights. Very clean looks.

I had read an old comic of his when I was a little kid and I thought it was pretty neat.
Sometimes I wish I could remember more of the 80s.

Ha. As do we all. There are a number of 80s properties that always make me stop and think.... what was that cartoon/comic/toy....?

JZLobo In reply to glovestudios [2009-07-07 04:47:43 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I was only around for the last three years of the eighties though, so it sounds like I missed out on a lot of awesome stuff.

Very nice, seeing Ol' Rom really takes me back. hey Marvel published "Space Knights" which is a follow up of sorts to ROM: Spaceknight, so that's our best bet for now. I personally own the mini and really enjoy reading it every now and then. The lore is all there.

glovestudios In reply to Mighty-Griffon [2009-07-07 03:38:34 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I've heard about that. So it's pretty decent?
π: 0 β©: 1
Mighty-Griffon In reply to glovestudios [2009-07-07 10:42:01 +0000 UTC]
Very much so. As i said the Lore is all there, The original armors of ROM's knight squad (if slightly redesigned, but instantly recognizable) themselves, heavy indirect references to ROM (never direct as Marvel doesn't have his rights), The dire wraiths are still there, and still a pain in the ass, and GOD i love their depiction of the wingwraith. My only sorrow is that it's only a 4 issue mini.
I highly recomend it if you're a ROM fan like me.

Rom's limbo is a sad thing. If Marvel could outright buy the rights he would make such an excellent addition to their currently amazing set of space opera stories.
