Description
11" x 17" prismacolor markers on bristol.this whole piece was based around the idea of illustrating dynamic movement (in this case gear like movement) with static objects. i think the composition also looks interesting when viewed from the side. i welcome and invite (harsh) critique. thanks for looking.

I think it is stunning.
But since you welcome critique- I personally think the humanoid figure on the right is a distraction. You created a universal web and then there is "this dude" who isn't part of it. Or maybe that was deliberate. Β Only you know. Β BUT I want him to be a part of it. Maybe just so I can feel I am a part of it...

i go back on forth on said dude. but that's probably not far off of how i feel about us as a whole in nature. to be honest, he's equal parts focal point and trying to play with scale.Β

This is a fascinating piece of work. The colors capture my attention immediately, and the spiraling branches pull me into it.

It does look dynamic, feel like something monumental is happening.

thank you. monumental is an interesting choice of words. it's quite specifically what i've been trying to incorporate by using scale and motion. your words are much appreciated.

Nicely done! You've captured so much with this. The fire of the sun and the ice of the mountain-tops. I appreciate your inspiration of the gears.
In Celtic Mythology, spirals represent the cycle of the seasons and eternity and that's what drew me in to take a closer look at this piece.
Wonderful!

thank you for that insightful remark. it's funny you should bring up a celtic aspect of art since i just recently discovered the joy of knots. i would estimate that those will be popping up in my finished piece a lot. thanks again for the cultural interpretation. it adds a dimension to the piece i hadn't intended but love nonetheless.

You're very welcome! Hmmm, . . . knot work, eh? I LOVE to dabble in knotwork myself. I have a large piece on the drawing board now. I may have to add a watch to see where you take this.
I like your color sense.

Yeah, I read that. Maybe we could all do better if we were color blind?! What version of color blindness do you have?

I was immediately attracted by the colours, but when I looked closer I can appreciate the quality and consistancy of the line work. I like the way the tree branches become a kind of net which echos the shapes of the clouds.

thank you. i was trying something new with curving everything to the flow of the two main circular motions going on. i have tried other geometric patterns, but theres something special about two large interlocking circles. thank you for taking the time to look.

thank you! i was not familiar with his work prior to your comment. After doing some sleuthing, I am honored by your remark. i really liked your panel abstracts. i think the diversity of rising textures crammed in that tall, thin space is an idea you could really evolve and manipulate. looking forward to more!

Oh you are most welcome! Look at Roger Dean as well ... there's some similarities there too! Both two in my list of favourite artists I have to say, and two I sometimes would love to work like myself, but find myself wanting to find me ... Anyways, I like tall thin compositions (or short wide ones!) and it's an interesting way to do things, sometimes it's like a little slice, a glimpse into an inner world of energy and emotions and intuitions. Thank you so much for your comments too and I must take a browse around your gallery when I have more time (fingers are itching for pens/pencils/paintbrushes now).

Roger Dean is someone I am more familiar with. I find it's always a balancing act trying to pay homage to one's influences while still, as you put it, trying to find the "me" in each new image. regardless of what your produce, the fact that you are consciously considering these elements of your artwork shows just how much you put into each piece. good luck with your art!

On another note: Am I the only one who turned her laptop sideways because the artist said it looked cool sideways?
