Gnasher was born and raised on the planet Earth during The Great War. He lived with his grandfather (a retired UNSC General) since his Father was away serving as Captain aboard a UNSC destroyer (name of ship unknown) and his brother was serving as an ODST during the war. Showing an unusual ability to learn and adapt quickly at an early age, Gnasher was taught the art of war by his grandfather. However, this did very little to satisfy his thirst for knowledge and soon took an interest in science and engineering. By the age of 12 he had an I.Q. of 210, though talented he preferred to hide his abilities from the world (This is most likely due to the fact that he doesn’t like being popular).

Hearing about his father’s death during the battle for Reach and with his brother’s disappearance during the battle on installation 00 (The Ark) resulted in a dramatic change in his personality. He now seemed more focus in making himself stronger and bent on destroying what was left of the covenant. He started to work on a new type of performance enhancing formula that he based on different types of “Rumbledrugs” to create a new hybrid formula (AF-0597a). After extensive testing he gave himself a low dosage of the formula and it had promising results, however the formula wasn’t quite perfected and it resulted in some unfortunate side effects. It affected his mental state making him more insane at times and increased his aggression when he became angry. Realizing that the formula was a complete failure, he tries his best to hide the fact that he has been augmented and has gone as far as to make a suppressant to help keep himself under control.

At the age of 19 he decided to join the UNSC and follow in his brother’s footsteps by becoming an ODST, but instead he somehow got enlisted into Project Freelancer’s Simulation Trooper Academy. He spent about a year at the Academy learning different forms of martial arts and fighting techniques. He trained harder than most of the other soldiers at the STA (this was mostly due his quest to make himself stronger). Soon he became a skilled fighter at hand-to-hand combat, stealth tactics, ranged combat, and close quarter combat. His favorite weapons to use are the Spartan Laser, and his modified Plasma Repeater. During this time at the STA, he met a soldier by the codename Caboose when in a training simulation. They first considered each other rivals but soon there rivalry turned into a friendship. The two became good friends over time and fought together as teammates during several training simulations.

It wasn’t long before they met another soldier by the codename Leviathan. After debating the issue for a while, both Gnasher and Caboose agreed that Leviathan would make a good addition to the team and so team Prodigy was formed. Even though Caboose and Leviathan got along well, Gnasher viewed Leviathan as a rival and a potential threat to the team. This was mainly because Leviathan was already on another team and Caboose and Gnasher often found themselves going against Leviathan and his team. Soon Leviathan left team Prodigy and returned to his team leaving only Gnasher and Caboose left on the team. While viewing some one-on-one matches, Caboose and Gnasher met the soldier codename Skye. Seeing that Skye was a highly skilled fighter, Gnasher was not the least bit surprised that Caboose challenged Skye to a one-on-one match. After several matches ended in a draw Caboose finally convinced Skye to join team Prodigy. With Skye now a part of the team, their team’s success rate greatly improved.

Unfortunately team Prodigy would not stay together for long. They all would be split up, assigned to different teams and sent too different outposts around the galaxy. Gnasher found himself on a Red team outpost as the team’s Science Officer/Weapons Expert. During this time Gnasher worked on his skills as a fighter and soon proved to be a very important member of the team. When he wasn’t fighting, he spent his time making upgrades to his weapons and armor or developing new weapon systems. He would often field test some of his prototypes even though he was given strict orders not to do so without approval by Red teams leader. However things would not turn out so well one day when Gnasher was field testing his Quantum-Singularity grenade. The Q.D. Grenade work exactly as Gnasher had intended and created a miniature black hole that ended up destroying Blue base and the entire Blue team but due to a minor miscalculation, the device nearly destroyed Red base and the Red team suffered a few casualties and one trooper was missing (Pvt. Jenkins was never found).

Because of this incident, Gnasher had to return to the STA for reassignment. Upon his return he was surprised to find that some members from team Prodigy had returned to the STA for various reasons. This is when Gnasher learned of Cabooses encounter with Agent Main, a freelancer that annihilated his entire team. Intrigued by this encounter, Gnasher began working on a secret program to help counter any freelancers they might encounter in the future. However he plans not to revile any of his plans to anyone.
