My first stamp. Because sometimes art school doesn't happen.( and other times art class can't be tolerated. X3 )

Wow, this got a lot of faves/views! Now That I look back on it, it's an ugly stamp. xD I think there are prettier self taught stamps out there now. I should really update this thing. =O

YES! People are ALWAYS asking me if I took lessons or if I traced something. ALWAYS! Gets irritating after awhile...

I'm self-taught, but just recently took a class (traditional realism drawing). I did learn a lot, but I learned more by myself, it is the practice that counts more. Digital art, I learned by myself but I'm planning to take a digital art class in fall of 2009.

I'm self-taught too. In fact, I'm the only good artist in my family. I draw better when I'm looking at what I'm drawing. I do learn from my art classes, but I haven't been able to take them as often as I'd like, and I can't get a class that teaches me Photoshop until next year. I don't want to wait until next year to upload my art to DA. I mainly rely on technique books and observation, and I'm looking up Photoshop tutorials online.
This will be a fine addition to my stamp collection!

And I've never attended an art class before. Ever. Only the ones in Elementary school, but then again, those were necessary.

I'd say self taught I did do art in school but they didn't really teach us anything. Most of what I've done is from learning from tutorials, books and trail and error.

I always love it when people ask me who taught me how to draw. I always get to go "myself..." Faces are always priceless. I love the stamp.

Wonderful stamp! I've been drawing as far back as I remember, and I've taught myself more about drawing than an art class has ever taught me.
I'm starting to wish I hadn't taken my art class this year. It hasn't taught me anything about drawing (that I don't already know), and the kids in the class all took it thinking it'd be an easy A (which, it kind of is).

Well, IΒ΄m not saying that you couldnΒ΄t learn by yourself, but I support art schools for the influence you get from other students. And art classes help you to step out of your comfort zone, so you donΒ΄t just do the endless flow of cute manga and doggies. Then again, I went to comic art school, and found it to be extremely helpful. But since I really want to draw for my life, I would`ve endured any strict teachers in any art school and any amount of life drawing to get better.

My friend goes to art school for about 6 years and Im self-taught, drawing for 4 years. Im the same level in drawing as she is. I think that if your self-taught is true talent because noone told you anything, you learned by your self without the help of any one.

Heck yes. I swear, I hate it when people think they are elitist, because "mummy and daddy" put them through art school. Sure it looks good on paper, but does it mean they really have talent? Not really. It just means they had the money to get that pretty degree.
I'm not saying that getting the degree is useless. They are plenty of artists that go through school and.. they're great! There are some who go through the school to just have a degree! It's all about applying yourself and enjoying your work. If you have an art degree, but drawing makes you feel sick.. don't do it.

I took classes for a while, but they just didn't teach me anything I didn't already know o_0 or made me draw boring crap like... bowls of ORANGES (gawd.)

I have nothing against art school, but when somebody says "I have a degree in such and such's art university that cost 2897289347987439847 thousand dollars." It doesn't... impress me. xD Especially if they haven't improved, graduated, and use it as an excuse to be arrogant.
I'm impressed by the talent itself, not the money you put into it ^_^

My art teachers always sucked---either they were too strict and made us think INSIDE the box, or had NO clue what they were talking about and therefore slowly reduced our braincell count with each class. Cutting colorful paper into the shape of triangles and hearts IS NOT ART! D<

I have had art classes, but they taught me NOTHING. I'd taught myself waaaay before I started the classes (they were compulsory secondary school ones). I still take art out of choice, but these classes aren't for teachers teaching you, they're more for teaching yourself.

Lol, this is absolutely perfect for me. I've never had an art lesson in my life. (except for a few still life/painting lessons, but they don't really count since they were taught by my mother, LMAO~)
