Description My first stamp. Because sometimes art school doesn't happen.

( and other times art class can't be tolerated. X3 )

*** 10/01/10***

Wow, this got a lot of faves/views! Now That I look back on it, it's an ugly stamp. xD I think there are prettier self taught stamps out there now. I should really update this thing. =O

THANKS GUYS! KEEP DRAWING OR ELSE!

I'm self-taught too. In fact, I'm the only good artist in my family. I draw better when I'm looking at what I'm drawing. I do learn from my art classes, but I haven't been able to take them as often as I'd like, and I can't get a class that teaches me Photoshop until next year. I don't want to wait until next year to upload my art to DA. I mainly rely on technique books and observation, and I'm looking up Photoshop tutorials online.

This will be a fine addition to my stamp collection!
that's exactally like me!

Mind if I make an alternate color? I like green, or blue. If not, pink is fine.

I've been drawing since I could hold a crayon.
I've only ever been in one art "class", in third grade, and I hated it so I don't take any more art classes. I figure if I want to learn how to do something, I can figure it out

I taught myself how to draw as well. Sure, I take advice from people about my art, but I didn't go to any art classes to teach me how to draw.

Last time I went to art class, it was in middle school, and all the kids were potheads, pregnant, or both. Never went back to one of those.

Anyway, love the stamp very, very much!

I think it's fine for people to be self-taught, but if they are looking into a career in art, they really need to take lessons and learn the basics. That will take you far.

I'm kinda like that as well.
I have art class in my school. But I actually HATE it. There are so many rude students and many students doing it for the wrong reasons. And there is a lot of stress as well. Damn, they give WAY too much homework!
I did go to a Learn To Draw Manga workshop though. And it was for free which I really loved. And I actually learned stuff. I learned how to do good anatomy there! I thank the workshop!
But I really HATE the art class in my school. I would much rather teach myself art.

I feel your pain.

I'm going into studio in art next year at school, but Iv'e asked around and there are WAY to many people who are taking it just for that easy A.

It frustrates me because people get the wrong impression about us who actually do care, thinking we just don't want to work hard. Like my friend's dad, for instance, made her sign up for music theory instead of art, because he thought it was just an easy A. (but shes much better at music, so she's getting over it).

I plan on working very hard in class and earning it because I like art, not like half the kids, who I am pretty sure will spend the time goofing off.

In times like that all you can really do is remember that when you go to college you will have the credits you need if you go for art school, and the people who are there for the easy A and not the art will have to deal with the fact that they didn't take buisness theory instead when they try to apply for a buisness college..

Sorry if I got off topic, i got angry there for a minute.

Awww.
I'm glad someone else knows about my situation
I find it really annoying too. I think that people should just choose the subject they like best, instead of just to get an easy A.

Me too.
Isn't that the point of high school?
Get credits to do something you like when you graduate?
I hate it when people waste their time for an easy A, but hey, their loss.

I'm self taught and I think that is probably the best, but not the only way tp learn.. I'm sorry, I don't want to sound arrogant and that kinda came out as such...

Its just that I found my own style and what learning techniques work best for me, and I like the way I did it all. THough I believe you should not pass up the opportunity to take a real art class. You take what you learn there and integrate it into your own style, what I am looking forward to doing in studio in art next year.

As long as you do learn, it dosent really matter how...

....then again, there isn't much that middle school art can teach you. Awesome stamp, will use it! :]

People always ask me, "Who taught you how to draw?" And I mean, people ask me this several times. I basically just tell them that I taught myself - a self-taught drawer. I did, at one point, beg for someone to teach me how to draw, but I ultimately learned that the only way I would learn is if I did it on a regular basis and without someone leaning over my shoulder directing me.

yus, i am a self-taught artist >8D

my ap art class(and my other art class) doesn't really help with my art whatsoever(except with expirementing with different media).

not only that, but my teacher only prefers traditional media and realism(no anime, photography, etc "photography isn't art!" is what she says) so she's definetely not any help.

I take pride in the fact that I'm self-taught, but I'm not arrogant about it. I would kill to go to an actual art college. (I'm hoping to apply to one in the near future, wish me luck!)

I wasn't accepted into my high school's Commercial Art class (I went to a tech school) because all I drew (and still draw) is anime, the teachers didn't like me, and they also said I didn't show any potential.

Maybe that's why my friends in that class always came to me for help with Photoshop instead of asking their teachers.

Love this stamp! I'm self taught, too!

I took art classes a few times but it was so useless and boring... They didn't show how to draw people/figures/animals, or whatever, it was just 3D shapes and shading effects. I hated it.

Being a self taught artist is nice and all , but i personally find that people who advertise this "self taughtness" is arrogant/vain. Just because we are self taught does not mean we are any more significant than others. Not saying that all people are like that, but ive noticed quite a few use this fact as something to show off.

Self-taught artists ftw!

Guh. I had art classes this year, but they only taught about the HISTORY of art, and the terms for what people do in art. =n=' (It's kind of funny, though. At the beginning of the class, everyone had a pretest to test what they did or did not know. There were 55 questions. I got 50 right. Most of them were common sense, but I heard kids saying, "I missed 20. D':" and such. WTF.

Showing off how many I got right WAS fun, though.)

I was begining to think that I was the only one. X3

I've always drawn, I didn't just, pick up a pencil one day and I had talent. That's why I hate when people ask me to teach them how to draw. I taught myself, therefor you can too.

Amarante-Kun In reply to Miiroku [2009-05-26 04:02:24 +0000 UTC]

I agree with your last paragraph there.
THat pisses me off, because I feel like they need to know that nobody can teach them to pick up a pencil and draw well, as I certainly did not.

I give them a few tips, and then tell them that all they can really do is practice, and send them on their way. And if they don't believe me, I get angrier... it feels like theyr'e not acknowledging the years of hard work I put in to my art..

Well. I took a trimester of art once in 7th grade. I hated that class so much. XD I'm taking a Graphic Design class now, which I LOVE TO DEATH. My teacher is AMAZING and I've learned a LOT (mostly about Photoshop and composition of art, and stuffs) from her. So, I'm not ENTIRELY self-taught, but my drawing skills I pretty much developed on my own, inspired by other artists. 8)

is always good to have a balance, cause art classes ( and I mean the REAL art classes where you draw naked figures) also makes you see the negative and positive of your style, and how can you improve it.

I SHALL COLLECT THIS STAMP AND WAIT TILL I HAVE A REAL SUBSCRIPTION!
