Description
EDIT 2:New and updated Paint Tool SAI link has been added. The fur tutorial is ancient, but if it helps you, then super (:EDIT: Wow, firstly, I never thought that this would be my most popular deviation
www.mediafire.com/file/uda37qrβ¦This is nothing super fancy and fabulous, just a quick little thing I put together because i am frequently asked of how I do fur in Paint Tool SAI. Now, I am not saying this is the right/proper way to do it, because I'm sure there are a million different ways to do it, but this is what works for me.
1. The "base layer". Basically, base colour of whatever it is you are drawing. In this case, we'll say a gray furry thing.
2. The Water tool. Brush strokes. Start at the 'bottom' of the fur, and then overlay it and go to the top of it. In this case, I started at the right and worked left so my start of fur overlays other fur clumps, giving it the 'fur' appeal. Also, throw in some little fur clump-starts randomly. If you follow the overlay pattern strictly, it makes your fur look too uniform and not as realistic.
3. Add a lighter tone/highlight to your fur with a smaller size setting of the Water tool. Same with overlay, but do not cover all fur clump-starts. Just the part where your imaginary light source would be hitting along with the bits that of course will be lighter as it is visible and not hiding beneath other fur. Again throw some little highlights around.
4. Add final highlights with brighter colour and smaller size setting with Water tool. Whence finished, make the size smaller to where you will get little "individual strands" of hair/fur. Use these as final highlights and throw them around to make your fur blend right together and not look like poofy triangles. ta-da! Furrrrr.
Guys, don't stick to this religiously. Use it, study it, experiment, and see what works for you!

I would suggest finding a tutorial for Gimp then
This was old and I don't actually use this method any more, but was something I had developed in SAI by messing around.

I'll use this c: I understand what you did while on most tutorials they say "add small details" and don't explain what they are doing so I get confused. But even though there are no words in this one I know exactly what's going on. I like this way ouo it's good for people starting to try fur.
