Description
Second in the color inspired Retro Girls series.Well, I walked into my bathroom tonight to find water all over the floor. Evidently, there's a leak in the underside of the sink and when I turned on the faucet for the cat to get a drink (she likes her water straight from the source, go fig) it went all over the place. So what better to do when you're frustrated than relax by finishing up a piece that's been nearly done for a couple weeks now
The bathing suit she's wearing here was inspired by an actual one from the fourties, though I think that one had a floral motif. The shoes are the same style I put in the May piece. I have a pair and they are far more comfortable than they look
Media: Original skech of figure vectored in Illustrator, background added with pen and brush tool in Photoshop.
Other colors in the series so far:

beautiful, as all your Retro Girls are! great color scheme idea, does this mean you might collect them all into another calendar for next year?
also, i don't know if i've ever mentioned this before, but i really like how you make the background fill colors off-register from the lineart, it's a great look.

Count me in 4 2006!!!
A friend saw the last one and commented"looks like it belongs in a 15-16 year-old girl's room(she's an artist too, just too crippled nowadays to work, may have been a pain-filled day that brought that on.).""I liked it or wouldn't have bought it" says I."Humph" came the reply and she stalked out the door and left...
Only neg. thought on drawings is that background is a little spartan.
Many drawings of the fifty's make me think of a Norman Rockwell painting cleaned up,and reduced to it's basic elements.
(OK this IS coming from a non poster of art untill Set./Oct. so it doesn't count for TOO much )
Sin.

awesome! good luck with it! i don't think i ever told you how well your 2005 calendar came out, it's really impressive. i always worry about proper color calibration, etc, and things never seem to look the same printed out as they do on my monitor, but you did an excellent job, and your calendar is really a work of art!

lol, well, and I found out you really have to keep an eye on it. The one ~ Jarod-the-Stampede printed really really really dark. I ended up giving him one of mine in the meantime.

Did I ever tell you I love your Retro works? She's adorable! (Even though it's orange, a color with which I have personal problems [in-joke ], I still love it!) I especially like her clothes and shoes.
But I also thought of MacDonald's when I saw the swimming pool...

[ congratulations on the dd. it was a wonderful and thoughfully written piece. ]
first, i love the whole retro feel, reminds you of the simple glamour in things.
the [ colouring outside the lines ] compliment the fun and flirtatious feel.
though the line of her back looks a tad odd.
shes so wonderfully and exaggeratingly curvaceous that that particular line looks...weird.
[ haha, i read the critique thing and i still feel weird saying less than pleasing things ]
but it still makes you hallucinate that the smell of tangerines and summer is wafting about...
