Description
Second in the color inspired Retro Girls series.Well, I walked into my bathroom tonight to find water all over the floor. Evidently, there's a leak in the underside of the sink and when I turned on the faucet for the cat to get a drink (she likes her water straight from the source, go fig) it went all over the place. So what better to do when you're frustrated than relax by finishing up a piece that's been nearly done for a couple weeks now
The bathing suit she's wearing here was inspired by an actual one from the fourties, though I think that one had a floral motif. The shoes are the same style I put in the May piece. I have a pair and they are far more comfortable than they look
Media: Original skech of figure vectored in Illustrator, background added with pen and brush tool in Photoshop.
Other colors in the series so far:

Blue: [link]

I'm thinking blue next and then come back to yellow. Blue was going to be before orange, but I had a couple of things I needed to tweak in the design and this one was ready to go

Nice feel to it. Nice and clean lines... very beautifull. the sunglasses are brilliant.
The little orange to the left of the glasses... is that an earring?

yeah, it kindof blends in with the glasses a bit, but that's what it was. I toyed around with a little orange charm bracelette, too, but I thought that might be a bit too much.

You know somebody that's hiring? j/k I really need to do some research on liscensing and that kind of thing. Really, I need a buisiness manager to take care of that stuff, I just like the creation process

Haha. I wish. One of the best things my professors taught me was to look at pay sites like "the i-spot" [link] and... uh... I forget. Employers look through them for certain styles. I know the i-spot is particularly high-traffic. Either that or find an agent with a good website so they can pimp you out.

She's great, really summery looking, makes me think of warm sunny days... Oh how I long for them!! The background is just right too and it certainly has the 'retro' feel just right. I really like the way you are doing a series based on colours, I look forward to the next one! I like the very subtle bit of green on the swimsuit and glasses and just wonder if a little extra bit of green in the backgound might have been nice to? Just a thought, i love it as it is

Very cute! I love how she's looking at the "camera" over her sunglasses. Gives it a bit of an attitude kick. I wonder if you're going to do all the colors (e.g. red, orange, yellow, green, etc.) for each Retro Girl. It kinda looks like it from my end.

GoblinQueeen In reply to LadyAkitsu [2005-03-15 06:58:06 +0000 UTC]
I don't know for sure if I'll do them all, but I do have designs already for blue, yellow, and black as well. I'll probably come up with something for green and purple and possibly white.

shinragod [2005-03-14 17:08:22 +0000 UTC]
Cool. I don't know why but this pic somehow reminds me of the song 'Lady Marmolade'; guess cause of all the orange. As usual the curvature used in creating the retro style is well executed, good line choice. And the different values of orange also help[s her stick out more. Value is something I have yet to work on. For a pic that doesn't require much shading it turned out very nice.
BTW: I see your 'Tips to Critique on DA' made the Daily Deviation, congratulations on that .

Oh, I do so love pieces done in analogous colour schemes... it's oddly comforting to me, for some reason. Though, I think the little accent of the pink rim on the swimming pool makes it. That little bit of subtle contrast is nice.
I'm getting a real kick out of the orange water. It's fun, it matches... and it makes me think of swimming in orange soda. And now I'm craving something artificially orange flavoured...
Question: What kind of pen tool brush do you use to get those nice, calligraphic outlines that you use for the skin parts?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
GoblinQueeen In reply to Porphyria-Kris [2005-03-15 07:04:03 +0000 UTC]
I wish there was a brush for that Sadly, that's why these take so long, all those lines are actually shapes I make with the pen tool, just very very thin shapes
