Description
Happy Corpse Bride dvd release day eyeryoneOk, so it's not that huge of a deal, but I've had a rough version of this in my sketchbook for about 3-4 months or so now, so I figured it was a good chance to finish it out
I had been toying with doing something along the lines of the old melodrama theater posters when the title hit me and from there, everything else just fell right into place. There's a couple of Burton/Elfman related jokes hidden in there. A couple are obvious, but one is more subtle and I'm curious to see who catches it.
(and yes, for those of you paying attention, that would be a live bride there
Media: Drawn lines done with Col-erase brown on vellum, background scanned papyrus, text done in Photoshop, painting done in Painter.
Corpse Bride and its characters copyright Tim Burton and Warner Bros

Good lord I love this movie.
Very VERY well done work here. The artwork definitely gives the feel of an old time, boardwalk sort of poster. I especially love the subtle Beetlejuice reference with The Handbook of the Recently Deceased.

I can just picture Emily singing All That Jazz from Chicago at that pub for some odd reason... o:
Come on babe, why don't we paint the town? And all that jazz!

Well Hello GoblinQueeen.
My name is Mella and I'm new in deviantart.
I'll go srtait on the request; I would like to ask you a favor. When I saw the drawaing you made of
a poster of the Corpse Bride, I fell in love with it. The fact is, I'm planing to put on stage
the Corpse Bride, as similar as the movie as possible. When I saw your drawing
I thought that it would be a terrific poster for the promotion of the play, and I would like to
ask you, if you allow me to use it. The use of the poster will ONLY be for the promotion of the play
and naturally,if you want your name on it, or a link at your deviantart profile, it will be a pleasure for me to put it on the poster. So I'll be waiting your answer.
Thank you
Mella
Ps: sorry if my english's bad and tell me if it is. I usually speak french

A superbly vintage-based poster that stays faithful to Burton's dark but original style. Verreh orsum

Is "The Melancholy Tale of the Corpse Bride" a little play at The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy?
Just wondering. Great picture by the way.

Very nice indeed, you pulled off that old time-y feel very well. =3
I think my favorite part is the way you used Bonejangles to sort of border the top text, that was a nice touch indeed.

wow this is really good. i don't think i would have the patience to do something like this i have a huge problem with trying to draw backgrounds and such. although pictures look about ten times more interesting with a background.

GoblinQueeen In reply to demofighter [2007-06-24 17:25:55 +0000 UTC]
art is all about patience The best part about having a problem you know about though, is it's that much easier to focus on and work at getting better
The think with backgrounds is they don't always have to be complicated, in fact, if you ask me, it's better if they aren't so that it does not distract too much from where you want the eye to focus in a given piece. Sometime, just a hint of something is enough to establish what you need
