Good morning! I'm pretty sure I will never create a more accurate character illustration of Toadsworth and the Minister. I'm actually becoming very fond of the Toads, and of these two in particular.Oh, there's a new Cleanup Crew .

I think the Minister was the prototype for Toadsworth, honestly.

Almost certainly, but their jobs seem to be different enough that I'm happy to distinguish them. Way I consider it, the Minister is a government official roughly the equivalent of a Prime Minister, while Toadsworth is the head of the royal household (the "Grand" Mushroom Retainer, in other words).
While I'm on the subject, Toad and Toadette are also both Retainers, or, rather, Toad is a former retainer (once the Vice-Grand and next in line under Toadsworth) who has since moved on to do lots of work in Toad Town (I'm assuming he oversees the maintenance of a lot of Toad Town property, hence the generally urban racetracks under his name in Mario Kart), while Toadette is still on-staff and in charge of the Public Works (developing and maintaining the properties directly owned by the royal family, as per her construction duties in Paper Jam).
Peach is the princess.

You make a valid point. Their jobs do seem a little different.
I still like to think of Toad as a retainer, though. The idea of Toadette working on Public Works seems to fit her. I see her more kinda working on public art, though. It fits her a lot.

Canonically (pretending for the moment that Mario has anything resembling "canon"), Toad is a retainer. Almost every time he appears, his summary identifies as one of the retainers.
