Description There is a certain futility in work one eventually observes on the ground. In a conscripted armed force, people from all walks of life come into play, but not everyone will do their part. Understandably one's hard work could easily be turned into another's entertainment, convenience or even promotion. So then what is the point of doing one's best? I likened it to a potter having his work destroyed upon completion, with a myriad other things happening at the same time - differing agendas, methods and attitudes - any faith previously placed in the concept of meritocracy is slowly ground to dust.

The Buddhist monks come down to the villages every year, I think, to make a mosaic out of brightly coloured rice. They spend all week, all working on the same detailed picture. Then once it is complete it is displayed, then thrown in the river that evening.
Demonstrates the need to put your all into life, even while you cannot hold onto anything in this life, everything goes. I believe that about it. I'm not sure how it can be applied politically. But this buddhist idea is pretty much opposite to a western, controlling, fascist or seperating meritocracist. Though I lean towards the latter a lot sometimes too.

I love the concept behind the picture and the way it flows into each segment with the slight variations in the continuation of the image. Amazing~

Wow haha you actually noticed that, thanks! I drew it as one picture but when it came to the rightmost section (one's hard work being turned into another's etc) it didn't quite make sense to have it in the same scene as the rest, so I broke it up to suggest a kind of duality, that there is a direct correlation between everything, yet they may not be happening at the same place or time.

Ah I see. It makes each section seem more individual and significant, but still part of the same scenario. It would have been a bit strange to have the one image and then the last panel on the right.
