An Elf.. a pistol... And a dead prince... It was the shot heard around the world....

It was the dawn of a new age. The industrialization of mankind that had started in the Eucadian empire had taken the nations by storm. Those nations holding onto the traditional ideology of the old world could not compete, and were consumed by the fires of the now expanding and newly formed technologically superior empires. Gunpowder replaced magic, now seen as an obsolete weapon, rarely used. The potency of the rifle was unmatched. It was adapt or fall victim to the hungering maw of these rising powers. So nations did what they had to, to survive: They industrialized.
Using the firearms and technology the empires had held over the rest of the world as a deterrent. It worked. And slowly, the Empires stopped their expansions, now contested by an equal technology.
Rifles replaced bows and crossbows, and schools of magic closed down, only few remained open teaching healing magics. Most nations were content in the end. And the world was at a fragile peace. The wood elves, or Woden Elves of the ancestral Woden homeland of Enevere were not content. Held firm in their traditional values, they opposed everything this new world stood for. They opposed the occupation of their lands by other nations and empires which took advantage of their refusal to adapt. They opposed the cutting down of their sacred forests for wood for rifles and cities. And eventually, they had enough. An extremist from one of the many woden clans had shot and killed the High Prince of the Golden Kingdom of the Avelon over the occupation of their sacred woods. Of their ancestral home. The response was swift. The Avelonian army torched the woods in response, and crossed into Enevere.

Through series of alliances, or similar ideology more nations would be consumed in this conflict, until the world burned.

The world split into the Alliance of Empires, and the Vineslian Pact

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Avercine Isles:

After the great Black Wars, the Daemons that still survived, had abandoned their drow followers, finding more Daemons along the way, either loners, or lost settlements of them. Numbering in the low tens of thousands, and being hunted by Mankind, they fled east, and did not stop their flight until they reached the shores and crossed it. They stumbled upon an archipelago, unclaimed an uncolonized. Establishing their own settlements, they flourished for the thousands of years without fear of human persecution. By the time they were discovered 350 years ago, the persecution and mass genocide of demons had ended, and they were believed mostly to have just been myths. The human settlers that had arrived, upon seeing the myths of murderous demons were true, fled. The Daemons, having long since forgotten their own past, saw the colonists flee in terror as puzzling. It wasn't until Imperial ships landed back on their shores years later in conquest that the Daemons once again found themselves at odds with mankind. The Avercine Isles would remain under Eucadian control up until the time Lagotia had begun their rebellion. With news that Eucadia was fighting a losing war with rebellions, the Daemonfolk of the Avercine islands too rebelled. Since then they have remained neutral on most issues outside of their lands. When the war started, the Avercine Isles joined the Pact, in feaer that if Eucadia was not stopped, they'd begin their conquest of their homeland again.

Allegiance: Vineslian Pact
Population: Daemonkin, Human

Artrucia:

A small economically successful country to the south of the Eucadian Empire, hidden away by mountains, have for a long time reigned over trade throughout the continent. Long ago, it once was a city-state, now owning a decent size of land inbetween mountain ranges cutting off the southlands from the rest of the mainland. When the war started, the Artucians joined the Pact Nations, having closer ties to Lagotia and Galbany than Eucadia.

Allegiance: Vineslian Pact
Population: Human, Elf

Pokelta:

A country of orcs, Pokelta was to sit out the war, until the Skandish forces started charging south to get to Galbany. The Skandish army, already fighting in Dakor against the RoD and Galbanic armies, sent another army around through Pokelta to get to Galbany. The Pokeltans did not respond kindly to this, and though a small country, mustered their army to intercept. They announced allegiance to the Pact, and dug in.

Allegiance: Vineslian Pact
Population: Orcish

Nortund:

Colonized by the Nords across the seas to the West, Nortund exchanged hands from nations numerous times before setting under the control of the Lagotians. Holding onto their Nordic traditions, but being a staunch loyal supporter of the Lagotian agenda, Nortund followed the Lagotians into war soon after it was declared. Failing to convince any of the other countries on it's continent to join their cause, Nortund alone sends soldiers overseas.

Allegiance: Vineslian Pact
Population: Orcish, Human

Or wait, damn it, am I hallucinating Pedersen Devices where none exist, because of the long magazine that I now am not sure is attached to the rifle at all? If so the mistake lies in my carelessness and a pathetic desire to see an obscure weapon revived, and in no way any error in your excellent drawings, which are beautifully detailed and precise, easily the equivalent of anything you'd pay Osprey Military Books money for. (Actually, to be honest, rather better than a lot of those Osprey uniform drawings, fundamentally more informative.)

It was a really cool weapon device though, let's be real! Aint nothing wrong with that!

Eh? I mean lets hold back on the praise I'm not THAT good. >.>
But I still appreciate the kind words. As well as the interest in these guys here! It's fun to make up uniforms in a world where you have the ability to do that! Fantasy is where it's at!

I see no Garands but Gods below, (as Amphy would say) is that the Pedersen Device, in the hands of the Artrucian soldier? Reborn on a strange new world, to meet it's true destiny? (Although, to be sure, even a casual examination of the operation and tactical concept of that Device strongly suggests that it's true destiny was likely to be cut pretty short - "walking fire", eh? Hmmm - but it would certainly be quite a surprise to any enemy, at first.)

Behold the interchangeable, drop-it-in-the-mud-and-lose-it awesome .32 power of the mighty Device!

Unfortunately no. UnU another guess turned wrong.

It's the Italian beretta model 1918. Since Artrucia is basically this world's version of Italy (if italy during this era was an economic superpower with advanced weapons)

Though, the pederson device was something I had in mind as a weapon upgrade for player characters

Curses. Now I know why it looked kind of familiar. "The magazine is on the top, it looks like a rifle" the two remaining neurons in my brain spark fitfully, "ah, the Pedersen Device! What else could it be?" Well, yes, it could be the 1918 Beretta.

In an attempt to still seem like I knew something, I tried to cover my bets by hedging in a subsequent post, but you beat me to it. Although my fall back position was going to be - God alone  knows why - "it's a Schmidt-Rubin and, uh, that long magazine is really attached to his belt. Yeah, that's it, I got it." which would have been not just mistaken but elaborately stupid

Oh, well.

It's a beretta model 1918. created by Italy, which is what Artrucia was sort of based off
