Description
The Terran Navy. The single most efficient naval power in the entirety of Explored space. A marvel of human engineering and leader of military weapons technology. The Terran Navy is truly a force to be reckoned with.Though it's size does not match that of the Xenos, or Confederate, it makes up for the lack of force with some of the most accurate and precise canons available sports some of the finest armor of all the nations, and has some of the most effective and disciplined crew available. Their ships are the perfect blend of maneuverability, armor, and firepower. It's tactics unmatched and their leadership unwavering they are ready to answer the call of the Federations whenever necessary. If you ever find yourself in combat with a Terran Navy, one must remain extremely cautious as the Terrans are known to feign retreat or withdrawals, only to lure unsuspecting fleets into a larger waiting force; or pulling a defensive in efforts to have the enemy come to them instead of them fighting the enemy on their turf. Even the Terrans famous Blitzkrieg tactics must always be in mind. In historical battles of the past, the Terran navy has been known to repel forces 5 times of it's size
However, no army is ever without an Achilles heel. For the Terrans, it is that of their doctrine, and the looming threat of over-expanding their armies. The Terrans have always been known to play defensively. The past 200 years have shown this. They believe they have everything they currently need and then some, so the addition of any territory would just require their army to sacrifice more soldiers for an outside prospect. They have kept to themselves, only having an army large enough to adequately defend it's borders, and an offensive naval force in reserve for when it's necessary. If their armies become strained, their effectiveness at holding the line could easily falter, and they would be forced to withdrawal their front-line further back to shorten the length required for them to hold.
The other is their doctrine. Protocols of military strategy and tactics that they have been commonly known to use, as well as procedures to follow in certain military situations. This doctrine has never been leaked, but it is known that they possess it. In the wrong hands, the enemy could adequately predict and counter the Terran strategy.
With this being said, fighting defensively is still not recommended. They are known to adapt to enemy tactics rather quickly. The key is to fight cautiously, being mindful of the battleground, the surrounding objects/asteroids, and the Terran Navy's initial approach.
But this tactic does not work for ever nation. The Xenos and the Staevik are such examples. However they will be continued upon at a later date.
-Excerpt from "The Art of Modern Warfare: The Free Nations" by J. LANDE
-----------------------
Ships from the Terran 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Fleets. All part of the newly formed Terra Offensive Armada and all being bolstered with a large amount of additional ships. (As well as the 4th, 5th, and technically 6th. The 4th, 5th and 6th are not shown for specific Reasons)
-The 1st Fleet: known as "the Pride of Terra". The fleet with the single most combat experience in all of the Terran federation. It's the fleet that specifically houses High General Helmar and his personal elite guard whenever they are to invade a planet or be transported.
-The 2nd Fleet: it houses more carriers and support vehicles than any of the other 5 fleets in the armada, and is commonly used for a supportive role for the Armada, provided a large amount of fighters and bombers as well as smaller ships like gunboats and corvettes in combat.
-The 3rd Fleet: The "Crimson Guard" Fleet. It's ships have been refit with some of the heaviest and advanced firepower the Terran military currently has available.
-The 4th Fleet: The "Black Fleet" [INFORMATION REDACTED]
-The 5th Fleet: A rear reserve fleet that has ships on standby to repair or replace any ships that fall out of the other four fleets.
-The 6th Fleet: [4̢0̡4͞ N̵̦̤̪O̲̳͎̻̞̝̯T̛̞̥͓͇ ͓̝̪̕F̦͎̭̪͍̫ͅO̴͍̬̘̰̪͙̤UN̞̘͚̞͉͠D͎͚͕̱͉͚͉]͔̝̪̯̦ͅ //REDIRECTING TO 5TH FLEET. PLEASE STAND BY//
-----------------------------------------------
There are no specific measurements for the ships yet, but know that that landing craft is supposed to be around the length of a c-130 (give or take a few meters. But that is subject to change once I do final measurements)
There are numerous other fleets, however, these are the first to be part of the Offensive armada
Battleship, Battle Carrier, micro carrier, Dread, and other support vessels have been left out, and I will cover at a later date.
For now, enjoy the Ships of the Terran Navy
The Terran Federation here is part of my setting.

I think the Terrans wouldn't be too happy when they learn someone is flying around in one of their ships

Long time no see, Sultan!
Thanks! Never played the game though :/ Wanted too when I saw the sale up in steam not too long ago and the remastered edition, but didn't get it.
Just trying to establish this setting more so expect more ships on the way!

Looking forward to seeing what else you can come up with c:
As I haven't exactly been around a lot, I gotta say--I'm really impressed by how far your art style's come. Had to double check a few times to see if it was the correct person x+x

Thanks and thanks again!
Pfff, though I do have to say I've noticed the leaps and bounds I have been making myself, often comparing new images to older images, and images that were made just a month before and there's a ton of difference. Don't feel like I've reached a point where I can stop calling my drawings crap, but I feel I'm getting there.
It also helps too that I'm no longer drawing with a mouse and using a tablet. >.>
In any regard, totally appreciate the comment!

Amazing design. Is it based off something?

Based off anything? No. It's all just stuff for my own project/setting I'm trying to build.
I had a 3D ship mesh a while back I made somewhat similar to this, but it just looked really derpy, and I figured I could draw a better ship.
But these ships were some of the very few sketched and doodles to make it out of my ever growing sta.sh Vault of concepts and scribbles.

"very few sketched and doodles to make it out of my ever growing sta.sh Vault of concepts and scribbles."
I know this pain.
Anyway, great concepts. which program did you use to make the meshes?

sketchup. I haven't used it to make 3d stuff in a long time as the ships all turn out just derpy looking. There's a very few amount that look semi-good.
But overall I've just been sticking to 2D scribbles since. Much easier.

It's interesting seeing the different armaments on the models. The 3rd feet definetly has more firepower.

Yeah, it's definitely there to pack a punch. the 1st fleet is closer to what the rest of the dozens of terran fleets are like. it's their "normal" fleet type essentially.
But yeah, dat firepower can make all the difference.

I really like how the ships have the same chassis, but different loadouts. It gives the fleets a sense of uniformity.

Yeah that's the general idea for the Terrans. A lot of uniformity. The other nation's fleets will still carry some sense of uniformity, but less so than the Terrans

Love the color coordination. The lighter painted 2nd fleet being all about carriers, fighters or bombers being the most offensive role. Otherwise, its auxiliary ships like transports, hospital ships and small escort vessels.
The smartly dressed 1rst Fleet being about space battles between fleets?
The 'rust red' 3rd Fleet being about breaking through system defenses and landing marines?

It does have larger fighting ships, like Battleships, cruisers and the lot. But yes more carriers are in it's possession, making it the go-to fleet for fighter-bomber support. But no, the Hospital ships and auxiliary ships are largely with the un-shown 5th fleet. It too has warships of all kinds, but it's a standby fleet that hangs out in the far rear.
1st Fleet is indeed for battling between enemy fleets, same as the 3rd, but the 3rd are more specialized in a lot heavier firepower, making them, as you said, the go to guys for smashing heavier targets, and orbital defenses
Landing invasions is technically all of their duties, as they all have troop transport, and invasions class carriers (un-shown). but most of those ships hang back a bit and go land when there's an opportunity to

Thanks for the info. The whites and greys of the 2nd Fleet probably put the auxiliary idea in my head.
Are those mentioned 'micro carriers' for dropping troops, or just a handful of fighters?

goeliath In reply to larqven [2015-07-16 13:26:08 +0000 UTC]
Micro Carriers are small carrier ships.
The purpose is to carry a shit-ton of drones, however they can be refit to carry larger fighters if needed. Troop Transport vessels could be classified as carriers too, but I usually just call em transports or LSV's (logistics support vehicles)
LSV's are commonly used today in the military, but more for carrying vehicles and other sort of large equipment, however I see the use for them carrying more than vehicles when it comes to traversing space.
The only class of carrier that carries a large quantity of troops is 'Invasion-class' carriers (something I'd have to draw up with the largers vessels and auxiliary vehicles. Those are carriers not for carrying fighters or drones, but carrying shuttles, dropships, and troopers to land. Like the standard carriers, they'd usually sit in the rear while the fleets fight, and when an opening arrives they'd move forward and deploy the dropships, before retreating back.

Thanks for the information.
Auxiliary craft get little love, but they're necessary. Transports carrying armor and heavy equipment aren't as sexy as Aircraft Carriers, but they can be just as necessary to carrying a war forward. Especially in constructing and supplying bases, and airstrips.

goeliath In reply to larqven [2015-07-19 08:03:26 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. LSV's and the rest of the Auxiliary stuff don't get any love at all, hah hah.
But they are very much necessary. There's so few people out there that actually realized that the army and the airforce both actually have their own independent fleets. It's all LSV type ships, but we got 'em!
and fret not, LSV's and Auxiliary stuff is on the way... just... probably a little further down the line.. :/

Thanks! It's pretty similar to a 3D mesh I did a while back. (it's terrible) but drawn out like this makes the idea 10 times better!
