EPIC VIDEO GAME REVIEW!

Super Metroid is a masterpiece! You’ve heard that a million times on the internet, but it’s true. I’ve beaten the game for the first time earlier this week and I have to say, it was damn near perfect. Good lord this game is great! At first I thought the controls were clunky, but I’ve gotten used to them as I played it more as well as changing the button configuration on my PS4 controller. This game controls as smooth as silk. People nowadays hate the floaty jumps, but honestly I think I prefer the floaty jumps compared to the weighty jumps of the later games. The floaty jumps give you plenty of time to land on platforms and kill bosses like Kraid or Crocomire. When I was playing Zero Mission, I kinda struggled with Kraid because I needed to make specific jumps to land the missiles in his mouth, but with Super Metroid’s floaty jumps, it gives me plenty of time to shoot Kraid. I also had to get used to how you used missiles, but then again, constantly holding the R bumper is kinda cumbersome so maybe it’s not so bad. On my first play through, I only died 4 times. The first 3 times were because I was stumped and the 4th time was when I failed to escape Planet Zebes at the end. I surprisingly escaped Planet Zebes on my second attempt with 5 seconds to spare. On my first play through, I never died to the bosses probably because I collected everything as much as possible. I tried to speed run the game last night, but I think I failed miserably. I might salvage it, but it may be too late. Getting everything while beating the game in under 3 hours is doable judging from a walkthrough that I’ve seen, but I’m not very skilled at this game despite getting through most of the game in a couple hours. I guess I’m a little too diligent. The music is great. It’s atmospheric, it sets the mood and goes perfectly with this type of game. Probably my favorite song in the entire game is the Brinstar theme right before you fight Kraid. It sounds very ancient and tribal, like you’re Indiana Jones discovering a lost civilization. Also, I’m bummed that the GBA Metroid games abandoned the Grapple Beam. I think I love the storytelling in this game more than I do Metroid Fusion. It’s a lot more visual and isn’t wordy except for the intro which I think is passed better than Metroid Fusion’s intro. Super Metroid is also not very linear compared to Fusion which I think makes the game more interesting because it makes it feel like a lived in world instead of a video game area. It’s deep expansive, but you could also get lost or stumped which is why I looked up a walkthrough for my first play through. This game also looks great. It looks dreary and depressing like it’s a Zach Snyder movie. Even Samus’s suit looks kinda washed out and dull looking. I also love that the bosses look more Lovecraftian and creepy looking. I think Super Metroid might be my favorite Super Nintendo game of all time. It is kind of perfect in every way. It might be one of my new favorite video games of all time. It’s definitely my favorite Metroid game. If I was 100 years old and on a death bed and I only had one game to play before I die, I wouldn’t mind having this game being my last hoorah. I’ll give Super Metroid a 10 out of 10. It’s the best Metroid game in my opinion and it might be one of the best games ever made.
