I would say that the ugly ones always are the villains, but it really doesn't go for SoUnd. Half the population looks like a bunch of background characters escaped from Star Wars and found a new home, and you can't count on looks to tell you if someone's trustworthy. What a world! >3>

Yeah, SoUnd has...quite the unique design sense, doesn't it? X3 It is a bit eclectic for my tastes, but I do agree it's nice to see that it doesn't always accord itself to the traditional axes of "good = pretty, evil = ugly", even if it does still follow those ideas with its main cast.

Hey, not even I can like all designs in SoUnd. Personal taste is one thing, but some of the clothes and such weren't what they aimed to be. Unless they were being ironic, and I doubt that. Some characters could do with a better basic design model, too (their facial features kind of move around). The backgrounds are frequently gorgeous, though, and the quirky designer minds do a good job on most roboticized people.

I too recall some very odd fashion choices. This is one area, though, where I blame the coloring style more so than the art direction; as you say, the backgrounds are great, but the characters are colored so garishly it clashes really, REALLY badly for me. XD;

Yeah, the coloring style did a lot to make the characters sore thumbs against the backgrounds. I'm trying to moderate the color schemes a bit actually, to counter that... (Along with learning to draw backgrounds to start with, hurr) The over-the-top style quirks are part of the charm of the show to me, but sometimes they're too much. All things in moderation. (I do also amp down Sonic's "radical talk" a bit...)

I saw some dialogue for Colors at TVtropes, it made me grin. Especially the exchange between Tails and Sonic where Tails reminds him just who built the translating device that let them know what to do about anything in the first place. XD It's exactly how I've imagined them going on.

X3 Sorry if my take on 'em freaked you out a bit. It's my first time drawing them, and I only had the model sheet pics for reference. And no, the fact that the Majin seal beefs up its host did not help matters. XD
