Description
The January illustration for my 2006 Calendar Antellonian Horse which you can purchase via check or PayPal at Eltsar Press.Official Calendar Caption:
Time and again people ask the preverbal question, "where did Pegasus get his wings?" or, "where did the unicorn get her horn?" The answer is the same for both, and seems to have been buried beneath layer upon layer of philosophical study and guesswork because (if for nothing else) of its simplicity.
The fact is, both the wings of Pegasus and the horns of the unicorns were gifts from an ancient and powerful race of ethereal beings known as the Alacorns. Bringers of light and wisdom, the are the archangels of all magical horses. The first to stand against darkness and the heralds of the sun, some of the brighter ones have been confused with stars in our world.

There is als a poem that goes with this piece (that does not appear in the calendar) so here it is as a little bonus to my dA followers:
Watch them fly, spread your wings.
Lift your head, the east wind sings.
Across the sky so clear
you have come
to chase the night away.
Falling shadows fall behind
Nightmares fleeting free my mind.
And the shadows disappear
now you're here
to chase the night away.
Chase away the dark.
Chase away the fear.
With the coming of the day,
I know,
You'll chase the night away.

Gosh, I had a name for it too that was similar... Unigus, I think. Only I think Alacorn sounds much prettier.

Beautiful shading! For all the hard work on the feathers, they look fantastic. Nice poem, too!
Is that another horse I spot in the rocks?

Yay! Another horse. I love this one... The coloring and the wings.... Eyes are a tad bit freaky to me. Maybe that's just because red eyed tend to weird me out But tis still a very lovely picture!
