Description This was made for a book I'm making as a "thank you" present for all the guides who have made this last rafting season so memorable.

This was based on an actual conversation I had with a bystander as we were getting ready to put in. It went like this:

Bystander: So, are you a strong swimmer?

Me: Pretty strong, why?

Bystander: I just saw that rope your'e wearing, do you use that to clip on to swimmers when you jump in after them?

Me: Oh, no. We have bags of rope to throw swimmer. This is just for flipping the raft right-side up.

Bystander: … … … … THE RAFTS FLIP OVER?!?!?

Me: ¬.¬

Yeah, a lot of people do think we carry ropes so that we can jump into the water and rescue someone, but in swiftwater rescue getting into the water with the person in trouble doesn't solve anything.

It's just something you learn when you get into rafting, no shame in not knowing. It's just as a guide you get asked that question a LOT.
