Description
Behold: Galvatron Backbiter!Well, here's my wolf-like Transformer fan character, complete with a finished reference sheet! Spent all day on the darned thing.
I basically wanted to get this up now because there will be a four-legged beast-like Decepticon in TF3, and I don't want people going "OMG you stole the idea!" after the movie premiers. I came up with this guy a little less than a year ago, so I am certainly not trying to copy their idea for Hatchet. He's based a bit more off of Ravage, really.
Backbiter technically belongs in the movie continuity, and the bulk of his history references movie events and such. However, he can (and does) make forays into G1 and such.
And I just have to say that actually coloring this kind of thing is pretty awesome. And I love how I did his eyes. <3
Please note that this image isn't meant to be EXACTLY how he looks, nor EXACTLY in proportion with the car parts and all. It's very simply a reference to how he generally looks and all, so that if I mention Backbiter anywhere, you guys know who I'm talking about.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Name: Backbiter
Allegiance: Autobot
Alt Mode: Black Hummer H3T Alpha
Weaponry/Oddities: Backbiter's jaws are strong and filled with sharp, serrated teeth. His preferred method of using them is leaping onto the backs of other bots and ripping out their parts piece by piece, or at least horribly damaging them, hence his name of Backbiter. His claws are sharp, too, and good for getting a hold on a squirming Cybertronian. His tail is lined with hundreds of small thin knives all along its length, giving both the impression of thick tail-fur, but also a long weapon he can use to slice at opponents. A line of retractable knives runs along his back from shoulders to tail, giving at least some protection there. A large tank-like cannon can pop out of his back, and smaller guns can be formed from his shoulders and hindquarters; however, only one pair can be safely and effectively used at a time, as it greatly hinders his movement.
The front half of his muzzle has a series of tiny plates along the edges of the mouth that serve as lips; originally this was only to allow him to snarl and bare his teeth, but it also gives him the articulation necessary for speech. His left optic is yellow, the same one he was originally given by the Decepticons; however, his right optic is Autobot blue. His neck is actually a series of rings that protects the more vulnerable circuitry and parts within; it can also be used as a defensive weapon. His "ribs" and chest expand and contract with a steady rhythm; this is meant as a ventilation system for his dense body, and makes it appear as if he is breathing. It is not necessary, however, and is occasionally turned off. His spark also has a strange pulse of light and sound, making it seem as if it beats; it's unsure of whether this is just because he is a beast-like robot, or if it is just his own unique spark's workings.
Personality:
Seeing as he's only really been alive for a few years, Backbiter is at the same level as a younger teenage boy: immature and prone to laughing at just about everything and nothing, including "that's what she said," even if he doesn't understand the Earth connotation. He is a good fighter, of course, as his millions of years of training and experience has stuck with him, but mentally he's one of the youngest out there. This leads to an odd, and sometimes frustrating, situation for him: he has the experience to be expected to be mature, but as he is not mentally there he often runs into a good deal of trouble with the other Autobots. He has almost no memories of his former life, and what he has is fuzzy and barely there, so all he knows is Earth and what he's learned of it. He especially likes Earth music and culture, and has managed to figure out ways to hack into iTunes and other music sites and programs to get what he wants. He's a champion radio surfer, maybe even better than Bumblebee and Soundwave. He has a habit of blasting "We Will Rock You" before heading into battle, as well, claiming he likes the way it sounds and how it ramps him up for a fight.
He has a very good grasp of the English language, but he is not nearly as proficient as the other Autobots. He has issues with picking up languages that few other bots do, as he was never really meant to learn them; even now he will sometimes express something in Cybertronian if he can't in English, as it is his first language and he learned it from faint memories of being spoken to in it. Other Earth languages are similarly hard for him to pick up, despite using the same methods the others use. He doesn't terribly mind, though.
History:
Backbiter's early life is largely unknown, and seeing as even he doesn't remember it, it's unlikely that anything will be discovered. What is known is that the Decepticons found him wandering around Cybertron after a recent attack of a city; he was likely someone's pet or guard dog, going by the name of Steelback (according to the scrawled symbols on his neck), and completely non-sentient, with the intelligence of a typical Earth dog. At the time he was a bit smaller and heavily lacking in his current armament, without cannons or knives or anything. Some demanded he be destroyed as his city had been, but Megatron instead took him back to their base, deciding that he could be a valuable slave. Shockwave modified him, giving him his cannons, tail-blades, and a bit more height and bulk, and then presenting him to Megatron. Shockwave also gave him a new name: Backbiter.
Megatron soon bestowed the title of handler of this now-violent creature to Stormbringer, a somewhat high-ranking officer and seeker of the Decepticons. Stormbringer had control over his charge that only Megatron could come close to. He could command the war-hungry beast to halt when barely an inch from ripping his victim's head from body. He could send him into battle with no others around, fighting hundreds of enemies simply due to his severe loyalty. The two became as good of friends as the vicious creature and his handler could, and Stormbringer took care of him and gave him the respect the creature deserved. That all changed, however, when Stormbringer was selected to go on seeker duty, and was forced to leave his land-based charge behind.
Megatron took Backbiter's handling duties as his own, not trusting any others with the beast. Unlike Stormbringer, he treated the creature as the slave he was, giving any repair duties to others and never considering the robot's well-being. Backbiter, bound to Megatron, was forced to obey and to deal with such treatment for millions of years, until Megatron himself was lost to space. He was a part of the team who voyaged to Earth to retrieve their master, now handled by Starscream in both Megatron's and Stormbringer's absence. He was a part of the battle of Mission City, staying on the outskirts and instructed to retrieve the AllSpark and kill the fleshling who held it. He had finally gotten close to the boy and was leaping for him when the human fell, dropping the AllSpark and sending Backbiter flying over him. The AllSpark gave some nearby machines life, of course, but to Backbiter it gave a far more valuable gift: intelligence and sentience.
After a few minutes to collect himself, Backbiter managed to hold onto his old memories of his horrible treatment by Megatron, and so went after him instead of the Autobots. He found and attacked him, only to be wounded by Megatron's use of him as a shield against an airstrike and taken out of the battle. After Megatron's death, he was found by Stormbringer, who had turned to the Autobot side years ago, but had been hiding in stasis lock until recently. After considering his own new goals and morals, Backbiter decided to join his long-lost friend and became an Autobot--with some persuasion of the 'bots by Stormbringer. A few modifications by Ratchet later allowed him to transform and he took his new alternate mode of a black Hummer H3T.
Some time afterwards, the right half of Backbiter's face was blown off in a battle with Starscream. His yellow left optic was fine, but the right side was entirely mangled. Ratchet managed to repair it, but without any yellow optics, he gave Backbiter an Autobot blue one, which couldn't have made the wolf-bot any happier. Even now, however, he's not sure whether to hate Starscream's circuits for destroying his face, or love him for giving him a new eye. It's probably a bit of both.
You may NOT use this as lines for your own character. And don't say I cheated and copied a TF3 character; I put this guy up unfinished for a purpose, so that people wouldn't say that.
You may ONLY download if you wish to use for fanart!
Heh, it's taken years of practice and many, many doodles to be able to draw the way I do. Just keep working and you'll soon be able to.
Also take note of the way actual animals are put together--horse or wolf skeletons, etc.--and then try to draw using that as a guide. It helps to know what poses are possible and such, and having near-correct anatomy makes a beginning drawing look a lot better.
