Big rant ahead. As a U.S. citizen, most of the things mentioned will pertain to my nation, but if you are of a different nationality, still feel free to comment. There might be strong language in this post.

First things first:

Jokes pertaining to race and religion annoy the hell out of me. Now, I do think someone making fun of their own race/religion is ok, but not because of "n-word" privileges or anything like that. It's mostly because jokes like that are tongue in cheek and making fun of those who believe in/use the jokes cruelly.

Does anyone honestly think it's acceptable to have someone of a certain race/religion around, in hearing distance, and say racist/prejudice things about it? Even in jest? Especially if that person is not your friend and has mentioned they are greatly offended by these sort of things? If not, why is it that whenever I mention something, especially regarding my religion, I get treated much like this?

Honestly, racism or prejudice against a religious group is fucking wrong in my opinion. Yes, everyone has their prejudices and misgivings about some races. We aren't perfect human beings. But that does NOT mean you have to be up front and cruel to a person of the said race/religion, or not like someone just because of it. Sure, there is freedom of speech, but there are also things called MORALS. Yes, I respect your right to say what you think, but that does not mean that you ARE right.

The thing that annoys me the most? The current prejudices against Muslims. Yes, 9/11 was a horrible event. Yes, it was done by a radical group that was against the United States of America. Yes, the were Muslim. BUT, Islam is one of the biggest and the fastest growing religion in the world. The event was orchestrated by a very small group in comparison. Also, not all Muslims are Arabs, and not all Arabs are Muslim. So why is it always Arabs that are checked at airports and such if the target of such searches are Muslims? Furthermore, there have been home-grown terrorist attacks by Caucasians, who have also been Christians. Yet, you do not see anyone going off about any Christian groups, right? The inequalities in such a situation is outrageous.

Yes, wanting everyone to get along is a largely idealistic view. Some people have said that racism and prejudice is part of the "real world of adults". SO WHAT? Just because adults do it, it's right and acceptable, and something we can't fix? Is idealism silly? No. The world wouldn't change if people didn't have idealistic views. Everyone would be cynical and unable to even try to make things better. So what if idealism is "silly"! It's far better than the alternative.

Please comment if you have anything to say. This is something I needed out for quite some time.
