The title doesn't make sense, I know. For once I've tried to be more sensible with my art and tried adding meaning to it for a change, y'know.
How it associates with Ying and Yang? Well, for starters; Ying and Yang is the two opposite values that creates balance. There always must be a sense of balance otherwise there is no Ying and Yang, it'll be more like Ying and Ying or Yang and Yang. Man, that sounded corny. Anyways, whichever you choose to interpret as the Ying/Yang. You'll be able to see some opposites. Zephyr (one on the left)'s pose is tensed whereas Lightning (dude on the right)'s pose is relaxed. Zephyr's pose is vertical, Lightning's horizontal.
Generally, that is all. You may have also noticed the box backgrounds behind both hedgehogs are inverted to each other. Zephyr's background fades to dark to bright from the outside, Lightning's fades dark to bright from the inside. You get the picture.
Oh, did I mention that this is my half of a trade with a sexy friend of mine. *angelsnow , you know you're sexy!
xDI like the change of direction with my shading, I tried the mapping technique alongside with the stroke shading technique as well. (Mapping is breaking down the tonal variations into more discrete grades of shadows and shade, in case anyone didn't know that. Stroke shading is self-explanatory.) Enjoy!

For some reason...I've always thought of Ying and Yang differently from others.
Most people associate Yang with dark, whereas they consider Ying to be light. In my opinion they could be either so long as theirs a 'balance' as you've stated.
I think..that they could perhaps be two of the same dar/light. Both sides holding one half of light and one half of dark. Am I making any sense? God, having a creative mind isn't easy..you think WAY to much..~Sigh.~
This is really good though.

Zephyr is the smex. XD Great line work as usual, so much great detail. I like the contradictions between the two that elude to their representations, if that makes sense. Great crosshatching too. I'd love to see more of these guys.

The frame with the crosshatching you've got here is nice. I wouldn't mind seeing a piece with that done around the whole character. Should look awesome.

Nice idea, and I like the differences you've picked out in the clothes as well as those you've mentioned. The characters are also very well drawn too. You've got some nice ideas to express the ideas of opposites but I think the comparisons are a little hard to pick out without reading your comments. Firstly, the composition has most of the page as white, which kinda emphasises a similarity between them, as their colours are very similar to white. I love the idea of making one character's body seem tense and the other's seem relaxed, but the heads don't quite fit with this comparison. Zepher's head is resting on his hand, looking relaxed, and Lightning's head is pushed upwards against gravity, making his look more laboured.
Ultimately, the quality of drawing here is fantastic, and it's great to see you playing around with the idea of comparisons - it's a very interesting concept and I hope you keep exploring it. As this particular image stands the comparison seems a little blurred and they seem a bit too similar imho, but you've given it a good shot and I look forward to seeing what's next!

yea I've actually started on this piece before my previous deviation so my thoughts and intentions of this trade were initially different. I have another piece that will hopefully be better seeing that it's different and I used a different media instead of pencils

Let me start off with Zephyr. You did his posture PERFECTLY to express his personality. You did an amazing job with his facial expression--Lazy, sort of in a daze, and his trademark smile. I really love how you did the quills, the ears, his outfit, EVEN HIS SHOES look amazing. I really love the expressions you did for his eyes. They're absolutly astounding *w* You even captured how he's sexy and whatnot. xD You really did a great job with the filled out background as well. It really adds to the image.

I really like how you portrayed Ying and Yang in this picture =3 Usually most people do the Ying and Yang theme as one character dark colored and evil, and the other light colored and good. But you....you took it to another level by showing it through the body postioning and the shading =3 That, my friend, is a true mark of creativity and artistic talent at work

ahhhh two characters one good one evil, they both look well drawn I like how you shaded them to show difference in light and dark sorta thing but then again in Ying and Yang they usually represent there is little evil in good and little good in evil anyway sorry for babbling nice work and keep it up
