It had been a few hours since the meeting when everything finally seemed to settle down. The sudden surplus of mares was quite the shock to Galvyn and at first he wasn't sure how to react. He had learned that the leader of the small group, Zariah had been in a few different bands through her life. She had a foal before but the whereabouts of him were unknown. She seemed cocky and fairly confident of herself and clearly looked after the other two she had arrived with. As she was grazing with her herd mates she would give Galvyn a quick glance and a wink which would make the stallion's stomach flutter and his ears twitch in interest. Perhaps she was testing him. Never the less he still kept a slight distance for her to settle in.
The other adult mare was called Adilin and was a few years younger than Zariah. She had been with the previous herd for most of her adult life. The domineering stallion that had ruled over her caused her to be rather fickle and nervous around Galvyn as if she was expecting him to snap at any moment. She tried to hide her nervousness but wasn't very good at it. She would constantly flick her tail and almost always kept an eye on the grullo stallion. Galvyn made a mental note to get to know her better and reassure her that everything would be fine and she didn't have to live in fear anymore.
Lastly there was the young filly named Rayse. Zariah told Galvyn she was was worried that the filly would be traumatized after witnessing what happened to her mother. They weren't even sure if she was still alive after the attack and that it was the best course of action to leave the herd as soon as possible. The amber roan took in upon herself to be her surrogate mother. Thankfully Rayse was at the age where she didn't need to nurse and was switching over to grazing on grass shoots and clovers instead, much to the relief of the two mares she was accompanying.
It had been a fairly eventful day and Galvyn was glad it was coming to an end as the sun began to set over the horizon. He looked at his small band and smiled to himself in pride. He had finally been able to start a herd of his own and be the leader he so desperately wanted to be. In the back of his mind he still wasn't sure if he was up for the challenge but he quickly whisked that away. This was his band and he would do anything in his power to protect them. He slowly walked over to Ninera, who was quietly nibbling away at the grass and was slightly surprised at the sudden company of her lead.
"Ninera" Galvyn said quietly as she lifted her head to his and gave a warm smile.
"I want you to be my lead mare." her ears pricked up in excitement from the statement and joy filled her eyes.
"You really mean it my lead?? Me?" It was if her heart skipped a beat with pride and she touched noses with him. "Yes" he continued. "I couldn't think of a better mare to be in that position but you." Ninera was nearly bouncing on her toes and was about to go tell the other when Galvyn quickly stopped her in her tracks.
"We'll tell them tomorrow, it's been a long day for them." he wrapped his neck around hers in a loving embrace and chuckled lightly.
"Of course my lead!" she giggled and gave him a slight boop on the nose before heading back to the others to continue her afternoon graze.
Galvyn felt this was going to be the beginning of something great. And he couldn't wait to see it through.

I know I havn't done little written stories to go along with my pictures but I think maybe I might start doing that just to try and hone my skills as a writer because I still think I'm not very good at it. I'm also going to Europe for two weeks tomorrow so I'm gonna be AFK until then! I'm pretty nervous but hopefully everything will be good and I'll get lots of pictures. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
