Description Vast trains and walking automatons, run on nothing more that gears, march across the earth. Huge cities exist in bubbles on the ocean floor, on the moon, and deep into the crust of the earth. The actual core of the earth, has not been tamed yet (the heat still poses too much of a threat to would-be settlers), but the core of the moon is British-controlled.

Despite extensive colonization in weird places, large areas of the earth have been completely untouched (though they're now mostly depopulated, save for some military bases established by the great nations). Computers are bulky and rare. Most governments are constitutional monarchies.

Europe prepares for war. The European Reich dominates much of the continent. The British and Spanish stand firmly against it. On the other side, Europe's continued support for the Russian Empire infuriates the Muscovites. The Danes and Turks quietly wait to see which side they should join. The King in Louisiana awaits for the day when the European nations tear each other to bits, so that France can be restored. In China, the legitimate emperor has fled to the Western provinces, with Muscovite support. Japan has established its own Puppet emperor. And the third side in the Chinese conflict is Heavenly China, a new rebellion lead by a wacky new pseudo-Christian cult that bears similarities to Falun Gong.

The question with clock-punk is always how things get wound up in the first place....

Bravo, quite original. What's the difference between the Muscovite and Russian empires? (And wouldn't the Muscovites claim the name "Russian" for themselves?)

Thanks! I suppose other gear-powered machines wind the clocks....
The peasants rose up against the German King in St.Petersburg, and a local nobleman created his own empire about a century ago. The European intervened on behalf of the legitimate Tsar, and saved a tiny bit of his empire. As part of the peace treaty, the Tsar in Moskau cannot call his empire 'Russian'. These days 'Russia' only survives on European-backing.

Very interesting. Is there an established POD for this scenario?

No, but divergences start happening somewhere in the early 1600s. Thanks!
