Description My first attempt at a light painting, hope you'll like it
I "painted" the ghost and the bicycle with a flashlight during the exposure, and I added in post-process a clouds texture (from my owm stock)

It was shot at Ryolite, a ghost town near the Death Valley. The town is full of creepy sculture as this one. I went there in the middle of the night, with a full moon and a strong wind whistling in the destroyed houses and the nearby cemetery.
It was a very intense experience.

Jeff, I don't know if you noticed the long row or sculptures. I think that was supposed to be "the last supper". I don't know about the bicycle though.

I saw the "last supper", I did a light painting on this one too, but the result was not as good as for the bicycle (wrong camera placement). I found info about these sculptures after posting and naming my picture, and actually the sculpture is also called "Ghost Rider"

Stunning...amazing...speechless!!! But, I still have no idea how you "painted" the ghost and bike with flashlight!? How did you put them together? Wasn't it during post-processing? Anyways, gorgeous!!

GoranDA In reply to engrafico [2008-02-06 07:58:24 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much
it's a sculpture, there is a stand and they were already together
the good thing about the light painting : you highlight just what you want to show up and you avoid all unwanted elements, as the stand
I didn't "create " any shape with the flashlight, I just used it to put the light were I wanted it.
By using a small asperture (f/11), low iso (100) and long exposure (2min), there is only what was directly lighten which show up, I moved the flash light very closely to the bike and ghost shape (inside the ghost shape actually), I kept myself invisible by always moving

wow, i havn't seen many shots like this, and i am quite intrigued about the technique...how are the items staying up, how'ya do that?!
well anyway i thinks its a clever in the technique and subject, its quite spooky. the contrast, light and focus is all perfect and i think the addition of clouds is also fab...really can't say anything bad, its uber cool

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GoranDA In reply to Gabriella-Fraser [2008-02-05 20:02:39 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much
it's a sculpture, so the items stand by themself, there is a stand masks by the clouds
However, even without the clouds, the stand was not visible on the picture, it's the good thing about the light painting : you highlight just what you want to show up and you avoid all unwanted elements, as the stand
