Description EDIT AND UPDATE: I plan on creating a more extensive tutorial soon.

I created this because I needed to understand how I would explain my creative process to other students.
This is not my best work yet, but I feel like I'm getting there.
This could be simple or this could be difficult, I guess it depends on what level you're at or want to be.

I did a mermaid tail because I used to create mermaid photo-manipulations on here (dA) a few years back.
But now I wanted to see if I could paint one instead.

I haven't created any tutorials in two years, so I thought, what the hell. Why not.

If anyone has any questions that has to do with my process, you can send me a note or ask me in the comments below.

I hope this helps!

Lovely scales! I like mermaids... lightly breaded and fried, with salt and vinegar. Beautiful work, and a really useful tutorial! Thanks

the layout of the tutorial is great ( text could be a bit bigger) i just have one question, once you have a single scale, do you just duplicate the rest or make a brush with it?

I'm sorry about the size of the text. I guess I should have gone bigger. ...its been a while since I've made a tutorial.
To answer your question, yes. you can do either one as long as you create the scale(s) on your own
I'm not implying that you or anyone else would just use the scales that I drew and turn them into a layer or a brush;
because, if someone did do that it would be a huge no no.

Thank you for the feedback.

No prob formatting can be difficult especially with things like font and text size

Ok makes sense. I thought perhaps you had an even more effective method to fit scales together but the next time I`ll draw scales I´ll definitely remember this. (and of course use my own drawn scales )

 it's really good.

i dont draw mermaids but I'm definitly saving this one for if i do... plus you could always use it for snakes or dragons too...
