A birthday gift for AnRock3 , his character Neil!View in 3D on Sketchfab - skfb.ly/69FSY
I wanted to see Neil in 3d and I thought it would make a nice present as well. I made a short animation loop for the model, but it came out broken looking everywhere outside of Blender, so I only have a render.
It was really fun modeling this and didn't take me too long, if not to count animation issues that I couldn't resolve. I did kinda a lazy job with textures here and I want to look into a separate software for texturing, because Blender is a bit clunky when it comes to handpainted textures.

You know, creating such good looking NPCs, it would be a good, if they were in the game in some way.
But that depends on GalaxyTrail and Strife.

This is inspiring! I dig the textures, and the whole thing just looks so solid and complete. As somebody who's been wanting to get into some light 3D modeling, sort of as a hobby, I was wondering:
A. About how long did it take to model this?
B. How much prior experience do you have?

Thanks! Ā This model took me about 2 days + 1 evening. I picked up Blender 1.5 months ago. I made 4 similar to this one models and a few other unfinished 'practice' models varying in complexity. This one is the better one I made so far.

It looks like a video game model because games uses the same 'handpainted' texture technique. I use it because it gives me more control of the colors though. And you're right, the goal is to make my 3d work to look as close as possible to my 2d works. It's achievable, but gonna take more experience with texturing.
