Description
On 11 January 1890 , the British forced Portugal to abandon its claim to a land corridor between its African colonies of Angola and Mozambique - which would have cut off the British colonies, from CAPETOWN TO CAIRO! The Portuguese government lost a great deal of prestige as a result (especially given the lengthy Anglo-Portuguese Alliance), which also spread the roots of Republicanism.

In this AH (set in 1910), Great Britain and Portugal's colonies each get their own land corridors - à la the 1947 UN Partition Plan for Palestine (I likes me some extraterritorial crossroads)! And there's probably still a king in Portugal, iunno.
