Description
Good god, this was like torture for someone with ADHD. BORED AND AAARGHSo, just a quick rundown of his transformation, as I see it. Consult the image of his beast mode as reference.[link]
1. His neck splits open at the very bottom and rises over the back. The head is left on two levers that will pull it up and over soon.
2. His spine, now covered by the neck ribbing, rises over behind the tail (which has launched into the air, free from the body) and both neck and back rest on the beast mode's belly. They become back armor.
3. His ribcage splits open at the bottom and his beast mode arms retract into each other and fold into the body, as his robot mode legs, which were compacted in his neck and body, extend down to the base of the beast mode's neck. His shoulders twist around to become the buttocks. He rises to his feet. (His beast mode body is upside down, now)
4. The two back ribs detatch at the middle and open. His beast mode legs extend out and move down between the fifth and sixth rib. His beast mode legs become the arms of his robot mode. The uppermost leg segment twists around to face forward, giving his arms kind of a praying mantis appearance. The feet separate from the heel and pivot on a concealed ball joint. The fingers extend.
5. The ribs squash a bit and the dinosaur head rises up and flattens, to form the chest and abs. A section of the neck splays out to resemble collarbones. His head shifts and forms from within the body and extends to peer out of where his tail was. Yes, Dinobot literally has his head up his ass.
6. By this point, he has caught his tail, which shifts to become a flower-like sword. He stares down his opponent before ripping them to pieces.
I want to see what his robot arms would look like if I kept them backwards. I can't seem to envision him being very good with a sword if he's got mantis arms, so maybe I'll upload a variation.
I'm still editing the image of his beast mode to match what few details I've changed here. Check the link to see if I've actually made progress on that.

I am writing a bayverse Shattererd Glass fanfic, and I am planning to use movie desings and recolour and redesing them a slight bit so that they fit,may I use yours?
I am planning to making Dinobot the sixth predicon, and since he must be II to be good then then I needed an II version.AND THIS IS IT!!!!!And since it isn't coloured, may I colour it in my though SG colours.
And the predicons are like Laserbeak,Crancase,Crowbar and Hatchet.Once they transform it is impossible to see what they transform into.So may I?

Yes I have. But may I use that one and the beast mode then?
I want him as the sixth Predicon, and he will be the left hand and arm of Prediking.
And no matter what you do or say,I will still think that your desing looks like Dinobot II,and that his who he will be in my Bayverse SG story,if I know get to use that desing of yours?

yeeuush
He looks like a zombie, i'm sorry.
I think it's because his arms are so long, and his shoulders are considerably lower than his neck.
Also, it looks like he'd have a hard time holding things, much less swing his sword around.
His form seems more suited to sneaking about, possibly climbing walls and getting the jump on people, which of course, isn't Dinobot's style.

Well, I am planning on giving his beast mode a redesign. I love the mantis arms, though. If I'm to make his arms out of his raptor legs, there's little I can do about it... unless I combined his heels to his shins... hey, that might work. I'll draw up some new arm designs.
He does have a very zombified appearance. He's meant to be intimidating, not only in appearance but also in fighting prowess. Don't forget, however subtle they were, Show Dinobot had "ribs" in robot mode as well. I was expanding on that idea.

For my lego-mockup of Dinobot(recently lost the figure, then learned about kitbashing and scratchbuilding, the double-jointed raptor legs allowed for his raptor heels soles to bend backwards, thus becoming his(HUGE) robot mode hands. The sickle-claw was on a different plane than the foot, so it allowed it to become the 'tumb' i suppose.

I just thought the metal shells that would simulate calf muscles (imagine a dromaeosaur's legs as bird legs, I'm talking about the drumsticks) would split in half and make room for the long heel to fit inbetween. Then the foot would split into a hand-like position and become the hand. No mantis arm.

I gotcha, i just can't simulate that with Legos.
Well, I COULD, but then the figure would be massive.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
So, the old taxidermy question...
What is Dinobot's Alt mode?
Velociraptor is the size of a turkey, we all know that now. The infamous Jurassic park raptors were actually Deinonychus in disguise, and even they were twice as tall as the actual animal. While Achillobator look a person in the eye, they are 15 and 20 feet long and are considerably larger than the jurrassic park raptor.
Utahraptor are bigger still, getting as big as 21 feet in length.

He is a deinonychus. He looked like a deinonychus in the show because he was modeled after the raptors in Jurassic Park, so instead of repeating the mistake, I decided to make him a deinonychus.
Hand/beast-mode leg redesign is coming up soon. Keep an eye out.

So with this, will optimus be the largest maximal?
I always thought it was wierd how chopperface towered over his commanding officer.
and what about Megatron? he'd be kind of broken, being two stories high. He's liable to step on his minions.
perhaps he would reformat as a Nanotyrannous?
or should we make optimus Kong-sized(or at least Mighty Joe Young-sized), so that he can content with his giant adversary.
whew, scaling is a bitch. I'm glad i don't work for hasbro's design team.
I'd have stroked during the Beast Machines line.

I will probably take some liberties with the size, like in the show. They'd all be a reasonable size compared to each other. Megatron will be a small tyrannosaurus, compared to the actual thing.

Very good.
Nother thing.
obviously, scorponok in Beast Wars is different than G1 scorponok, so will his appearance in the style of the 2007 movie, in which there IS a giant scorpion robot, be...different?

His robot head already bears a slight resemblance in that he has huge, lidless eyes. Other than that, I have absolutely no idea yet.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to fight the temptation to make his scorpion claws into his hands? UGH!
Maybe he could have many smaller arms that combine to form the claw? YES! YOU ARE MY INSPIRATIONAL CHARM.

I'm not sure this evokes dinobots personality very much, warrior, he looks too thin in some places(fragile), and too big in the middle, (slow). What I think could help this pic a lot is if you extended Dinobot's torso and hips.
what might help is picking one aspect and focusing on it and exaggerating it.

Gozer-The-Destroyor In reply to TGping [2008-09-04 17:34:04 +0000 UTC]
I could probably move the beast mode's shoulders from the hips up to the chest, on either side of the beast mode head to give the impression of a broad chest, and then compact the ribs around the hips to make his midsection smaller. I'm also going to be reversing the arm direction, so they don't look like mantis arms.

Sounds good for the torso, and as for the arms, there's nothing wrong with layering them to make them shorter. Thats how the TF movie does it

I like making it look as distinct from the original as I can. However, I did use its original transformation as inspiration for this. The beast mode legs are the arms, the robot legs are compacted in the body and the tail becomes a sword, just like the toy.
