Description
7 Oct. 2009 - UPDATED Thanks to everyone who commented.------------------
I wanted to draw Elwen Mora because I’ve love *VyrL 's depictions of her. Elwen is an Efraet (immortal human, sorceress) sensual and strong, a little crazy and mysterious-looking, but also soft and vulnerable at times. From what I've gathered, this character has loved and lost a lot in her life, hence the nostalgic, longing look she sports above.
Pencil shaded and painted over in Photoshop, trying to keep some of the texture.

how long does something like this actually take from start to finish? and do you do it all at once or take breaks?

Thanks, I'm glad you like.
I don't remember how long it took, exactly, it was a long time ago. It must have been several days... I took lots of breaks but when an idea bites me, I usually can't leave it until it is done.
The first thing I did was sketch it on paper. The figure, then the sheets and later and separately the pillows, and wood beams. I put the sketches together on a new clean drawing and shaded completely with pencils. Then I painted it over in photoshop trying to preserve some of the texture; the curtains were added then.
I didn't use references for this picture and I had to adjust proportions in photoshop, particularly her hand and feet. I did look at how wrinkles formed in general in fabrics and tried to learn it. I enjoy shading fabrics very much. The wrinkles here are imaginary and not quite realistic, but they looked appealing enough to me.

Incredible job with the creases and with the hair. Her face, too, is so incredibly emotive, and the use of white only adds to the sense of loss and sadness in this piece.
