with the bees next to the cactus flower i never thought the actual flower would bee that small

Did you stop to think that maybe the bees would bee that large? The flowers really are about medium size--I'm trying to think of a garden flower for size reference--maybe about the same size as a black-eyed susan, perhaps

We have always had these big bees around, since my childhood. They are big enough that I used to mistake them for wasps, but I guess this is a breed favored by both commercial and home honey producers around here.

yeah, i remember when i went to hawaii early this year i saw this big bee. it was as big as a golf ball.
