Description
Hey, look at that! A new Carston and Renault picture! No shenanigans this time around, just the Finch brothers at the market browsing some wares. I think this is the first time I've drawn them in their everyday lives (not counting the couple of pics I drew of them plastered).
As I've thought more about the setting for these stories and pictures, I've decided that in the world of Carston and Renault the Dragons have pretty much taken the place of the real world's Vikings: the Dragon Kingdom is basically Scandinavia, instead of Viking Raids there've been Dragon raids, etc. This is why Dragon Slayers are even a thing in this world despite the Dragons being as just as intelligent and reasonable as humans: they're knights and swordsmen who protect the realms from Dragon raids.
However, just as in real history, the Dragon-Vikings are at heart explorers and traders: thus, despite people being wary of Dragons throughout Europe, it's not uncommon to find Dragons trading and selling at the markets in places like Paris or Amsterdam.

So in 21st century dragon realms will have the highest standards of living in the world and produce lots of metal music?

I hadn't thought that far ahead but, taking the analogy to its logical conclusion, I suppose so!

Thanks! I'm a bit of a history nerd, so I've been looking for historical parallels I could play with for Carston and Renault's world. I'm going to keep tinkering...maybe one day I'll actually lay out all my world-building somehow? We'll see.
