Description
It was a weekend. Jesse was in bed, comfy. Suddenly--“Darn it, I have to pee.” Of course Jesse did not want to get up. He slid the covers off of his face, and stared at his nightstand. “What the heck...?”
On his nightstand stood a feral looking cat. They blinked at each other for a few seconds, then the cat leapt down onto the floor. Jesse rose in bed to get a better look at it. Immediately, the cold in his room pervaded his shoulders, making him shiver.
“Meow” it crowed, and slinked out into the hallway.
Jesse jumped up, and grabbed a bat. He wasn't afraid of the cat, but just how it got here.
He peered into the bathroom and guest room as he passed, but the cat must've gone into the living room. In the middle of the hallway, he paused. Other than the feral twitching of its ears, the cat sat, very still, at the end of the hallway. Jesse looked farther up, and just like the cat, crouched down and watched the shadows in the next room caress the wall. It was mesmerizing.
The teen had dropped the bat at that point, but had not heard it-- In fact, he couldn't quite hear anything at all, just a slinking shifting sound; smooth as silk muddling his eardrums. He moved toward the shadows: they were so pretty, and he'd never seen shadows play with a wall like that.
“Meow” the cat's tone was dangerous.
Jesse entered the living room, and turned to face creation that had him in wonder.
The cat almost seemed to tsk, and watched the shadows disappear.
Even Jesse couldn't hear it, but he was screaming.
