Description This picture featuring my OC Tainy [link] was done for the contest "Snow Hunt" at [link]

OK, I know this one is of subpar quality compared to the amazing pictures posted there for the contest so far (and the ones that are coming you can be sure of that!), but hey! It's the first time I have enough time to do a render for a contest on my crappy machine; weekly contests aren't just for me!

Softwares: DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro; Photoshop 7.0 and CS2.
Shaders & lightings: Uber Environment 2; Let it Snow; Furrify - Fur shader; pwGhost.
Stock brushes: Tattoo photoshop brushes from [link]
Material : Winter wonder - Snowlake; Snaggletooth caverns' stalactites; Tainy [link]
Hardware and system: Windows XP 32 bits; AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (single core, 2.2 GHz); 2.5 Gig RAM. (now I feel ashamed )

Very cool!Β  It looks cold there, but she isn't freezing, judging by her red-hot skin.Β  Excellent work!

She came out nice. I've looked the other entries and I feel like going to hide in a hole. You're pc config doesn't seem bad. Those 500 mb would have probably come in handy on my dual core, windows 7 pc.

Some of those entries are simply astonishing indeed. Obviously having a month to come out with something led to posting of great renders (which isn’t the case for mine but that is OK, I’m doing that just for fun anyways).

My RAM config is the only thing I am satisfied with as I can easily play with Photoshop and surf on the net WHILE I am doing a render. The bugger here is the 32 bits WinXP which doesn’t permit the allocation of more than 2 Gigs to a single software, hence the numerous fatal memory errors and the chronic DS4.5 instability (though 4.5 seems to be slightly more stable than 4.0… but just slightly ).

The corn rolls in her hair is a nice touch.

DonΒ΄t feel ashamed for your computer (unless that was pure irony and I did not get it).... I have been working with a machine like that for most of my time and it did a wonderful job. The only reason why I got a new one was because it simply broke and I needed a new computer.

Really nice picture! I like the lighting the most here.

Thank you!

The most frustrating thing with a computer like this one when trying to do renders isn't actually the time it takes to render simple pictures (some time I just let it calculate during the whole night), but to discover in the morning that DS literally collapsed during the night.
They are so many things I would like to do but the system just can't handle them, and more often than not, crashes because of a memory error. But that's OK. I'm doing that for fun. Of course if it was for something more serious, I would have changed system a long time ago.

Oh yeah, I can so relate. Renders have been running all night and then you get up and see the "DAZ Studio has encountered a fatal error...." message.... happened every second time when I tried something new. So I rendered in layers, first foreground, then background and stuff like that, merged it with photoshop afterwards... but then the old system did its best and it was never meant to render when I first bought it.... so I was happy that it did something at least! And who knows, you will buy a new system one day and then - when everything is installed and running again- you will love it because your hardware does not limit your imagination any more. Everything will feel like it is happening with the speed of light all the sudden.... I switched over to an eight core with 32 Gigs of RAM.... and felt like I am in render wonderland. Btw - my old machine will be repaired and be the computer for my son.

"eight core with 32 Gigs"… The DREAM!!!!!!!

And what you say it's true, when I first installed DS I was not even sure I would be able to do anything and was quite happy that in the end I could get something acceptable from it! For the moment, I just stick to simpler shaders and lightings like UberEenv.2 which takes forever to render but isn't too harsh on the system (the HSS shaders on the other hand is a big no-go for the moment )
