They're going to be so late and so ass-kicked by the time they come back to that castle...

All the elements of a good story. The paladin is a little too sour. Maybe that will change. This is really only the start. It seems like the other characters have been developed in previous stories. But the pace is good and that's pretty important!

I truly believe in charater evolution, so yeah, the paladin might undergo some changes in the future! The other character have been underused but I do have great things for them to come.

I like how they do it in television. The first episodes seem dedicated to an individual character. Usually the whole first season is just character development with a weak or easily resolved plot. More like a novel, where the chapters can cover individual characters. Your story so far seems more like a fast paced action movie. You'll get to know the characters by the end of the movie. Which is good too. It's also good because interest in the story isn't hinged on whether or not there is a character that people like.

My previous series was a little more like this, with many pages dedicated to character development. But that was a fairly long series (a total of 66 pages) compared to this one that should not have much more than 30 pages in total. So for this one, we’re gonna get to know the characters as they struggle against the odds!

And this is why you always have a rouge with sneak attack

Or a second fighter with the weapons master perk.

Yeah, they tend to do that rather well. I had a bit of a necromancer who messed up one of my encounters, by going ahead of the group during downtime, setting up the potential enemies with Explosive Runes (it was a planned encounter), then sat back and watched as the entire basement of that part of the building nearly took the PCs and some traveling NPCs with them while she floated above it all, via Boots of Levitation.
Learned a hard lesson as a DM that day, never warn your PCs about potential encounters. Especially if your determined BBEG is inviting them to be there. (I wasn't worried about them killing the BBEG at all, though the encounter itself was something I was pretty proud of).

We all have had players that screwed up hardly prepared encounter by doing something you didn't see coming!

Well, I did see it coming, but due to how the spell "Explosive Runes" worked in D&D 3.5, whereas reading them activates the rune, I was kinda hoping the opposing group survived, but the damage output... Yeeeeah... ono; Smears over the wall before the bludgeoning damage of the falling debris and dinner table killed them afterward.

Well everybody's gotta stand on their own sometime. We'll keep our fingers gets crossed for them and hope for the best, while fearing a humorous worst.

She will represent a milestone in this story as her introduction will somewhat change the whole dynamic of the group. Therina needs someone who can stand up against her!
