Description
It's satisfying looking back and seeing how an original character of mine has developed and changed.I've had a story in my head for almost three years, only now am I actually doing something about it. (More on this another time perhaps n , ~ )
Original drafts of Ophne began in February 2008. Her original name was Lucina, she as a bit more girly, weak and well very frail. ([link] One of her earlier sketches. You could argue she looks similiar but this is the only early uploaded early image of her. She sported shoulder length, black, curls, snow white skin and was a priestess in profession)
Then while experimenting with Yoshitaka Amano's kimono, watercolour, style, she became some what of a goddess [link] but I wasn't entirely satisfied and so I scrapped original Lucina and she became Ophelia in 2009 ([link] ). Now she's beginning to look like the character I have presented you with. During this time I had discovered my deep love for Shakespeares Hamlet and I fell in love with the Ophelia's tragedy. I wanted a similar sort of girl in design for my story but I found this wasn't completely original. Anyway, since 2010 during a textile assignment based on Ophelia I designed a headdress ([link] ) influenced by Ophelia and Olivia Lufkin's outfit from her music video 'A Little Pain' and I thought, wow, this would look great on my character.
Thinking her name "Ophelia" is still a little obvious to her character I played around with names that sound like it such as Ofelia, Odine, Odile, Odette and eventually decided on a combination of Ophelia and Ondine; Ophne. (Pronounced Off-knee)
