Description ANA Godzilla redesign challenge:

Went back to the basics by taking the origin of the name from wikipedia: Gojira (ゴジラ?) is a combination of two Japanese words: gorira (ゴリラ?, "gorilla"), and kujira (鯨(クジラ)?, "whale")

I approached it as if I had never seen Godzilla and went solely on the above description. I didn't want to do a rehash of the established creature design and wanted to see how far I could take it. I opted to go with more of an aquatic/ crustacean redesign and keep the basic gorilla shape. I did keep the lightning going down the back as it's something I've always loved.

Pretty much the same opinion as everyone else, great monster design but I certainly wouldn't call it Godzilla .

I don't call it Godzilla, because he is a reptile, but would be a very cool kaiju and a good enemy to GODZILLA, it would be a good design in place of Cloverfild monster .

For a redesign, it seems a bit TOO redesigned; doesn't really scream "Godzilla". However, this makes for a great separate character for Godzilla to fight (or just be all on its own, like the Cloverfield monster).

Plus, this is drawn incredibly well. Keep it up

thanks.. That's kind of what I was going for. I wanted to approach it as someone who has never seen godzilla and only went by the original description plus making sure it would fit a man in a rubber suit.. I might try a go at a more traditional 'zilla later.. Thanks!

This is really cool. Don't know that I'd ever call it Godzilla, but the design on it's own is outstanding.

Thank you.. Yeah, I wanted to try and go outside the norm on the redesign.

No problem, it's still a very, very cool looking kaiju.

We're all too used to Godzilla having a reptillian form. This is inspired!
