I was lucky enough to get to Red Square right on time after spending almost all day at the Moscow Zoopark. The day was great and so was the lightning so I moved to a spot where I have never been before and this shot came out, I love it!

This photograph is, in one word, stunning. I believe it captures much of that mystique that Russia holds in the minds of people who don’t really know it, or have never been there, that fantastic feeling of being a different world. Amazing churches and architecture, huge dark forests and wind-swept steppes.
It really captures the Russia that is now, that intriguing contrast of the old and the new, the majestic spires of St. Peter’s right next to glowing lights. I really like the framing, the church just slightly off center, it’s towers piercing into the golden glow as though they call the dawn. Looking at that inspiring glow of the morning sky, one gets a strange sense of peace, seeing a place normally full of people so empty and quiet looking, a special sort of silence that you feel in a place like that, those liquid grey-blue streets look almost like a river running past the Church.. There’s a truly astonishing mix of colour and textures here, every building distinct and unique, giving its own special mood to the scene. The old and the new. Brilliantly shot and framed and in a sublime colour tone. It makes me wish I were there right now, watching the dawn break. Rich in culture, rich in life.
On a technical side I can’t say a whole lot, I don’t have the skill to really do so. But the one thing I notice about this photo is that the last two street lamps on the bottom left side seem to stand out in a slightly odd way. They just seem a little lightly coloured, and tends to distract me from the otherwise majestic view. How ever its only if I really concentrate on them.
