Description
My wife and I spent a very interesting day in the company of a falconer. In this photo the pink colour is being reflected from her shirt (which can be seen reflected in the eye too). This is a trained Harris Hawk. There were in fact two of them and they were very much 'with' us. They followed us around the wood somewhat like being accompanied by dogs.
The Harris hawks are apparently unusual in that they hunt cooperatively whereas most raptors hunt alone.

Ah, got it, the answer is here.
I'd love to train a hawk one day...

They are certainly interesting but the falconer needed a lot of dedication to give them the time they needed to keep them working well. But then it was clearly a pleasure for him.

... I can imagine it.
A powerful bound is created between hawk and falconer...
It's one of my dreams to be able to train at least one of them.
Hawks of Harris are so noble and with so beautiful shades of colors.
I like also all the other kinds of hawks, of course...
Great shots.

Yes, it was a great day out. In fact, it was arranged by my sister as a 60th birthday treat! The birds made great subjects and I have many other photos but a lot of the are quite similar.
Thanks for the fave too.
